DGML
Directed Graph Markup Language (DGML) is an XML-based file format for directed graphs. Introduction to DGML Here is what a simple directed graph with three nodes and two links between them looks like which looks like this: The complete XSD schema for DGML is available a DGML not only allows describing nodes and links in a graph, but also annotating those nodes and links with any user defined property and/or category. See also * DOT (graph description language) * Graphviz * Microsoft Visio * Graph Modelling Language External links * http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio homepage of Visual Studio * http://schemas.microsoft.com/vs/2009/dgml page describing the XSD XSD (XML Schema Definition), a recommendation of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), specifies how to formally describe the elements in an Extensible Markup Language (XML) document. It can be used by programmers to verify each piece of item co ...

Graph Modelling Language
Graph Modeling Language (GML) is a hierarchical ASCII-based file format for describing graphs. It has been also named ''Graph Meta Language''. Example A simple graph in GML format: graph comment "This is a sample graph" directed 1 id 42 label "Hello, I am a graph" node [ id 1 label "node 1" thisIsASampleAttribute 42 node [ id 2 label "node 2" thisIsASampleAttribute 43 ] node [ id 3 label "node 3" thisIsASampleAttribute 44 ] edge [ source 1 target 2 label "Edge from node 1 to node 2" ] edge [ source 2 target 3 label "Edge from node 2 to node 3" ] edge source 3 target 1 label "Edge from node 3 to node 1" ] Applications supporting GML * Cytoscape, an open source bioinformatics software platform for visualizing molecular interaction networks, loads and save previously-constructed interaction networks in GML. * igraph, an open source network analysis library with interfaces to multiple programming languages. * Gephi, an open sou ...

Microsoft
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation and technology company, technology conglomerate headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Founded in 1975, the company became influential in the History of personal computers#The early 1980s and home computers, rise of personal computers through software like Windows, and the company has since expanded to Internet services, cloud computing, video gaming and other fields. Microsoft is the List of the largest software companies, largest software maker, one of the Trillion-dollar company, most valuable public U.S. companies, and one of the List of most valuable brands, most valuable brands globally. Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980s, followed by Windows. During the 41 years from 1980 to 2021 Microsoft released 9 versions of MS-DOS with a median frequen ...

DOT (graph Description Language)
DOT is a Graph (discrete mathematics), graph description language, developed as a part of the Graphviz project. DOT graphs are typically stored as Computer file, files with the .gv or .dot filename extension — .gv is preferred, to avoid confusion with the .dot extension used by versions of Microsoft Word before 2007. dot is also the name of the main program to process DOT files in the Graphviz package. Various programs can process DOT files. Some, such as ''dot'', ''neato'', ''twopi'', ''circo'', ''fdp'', and ''sfdp'', can read a DOT file and render it in graphical form. Others, such as ''gvpr'', ''gc'', ''acyclic'', ''ccomps'', ''sccmap'', and ''tred'', read DOT files and perform calculations on the represented graph. Finally, others, such as ''lefty'', ''dotty'', and ''grappa'', provide an interactive interface. The GVedit tool combines a text editor and a non-interactive viewer. Most programs are part of the Graphviz package or use it internally. DOT is historically an acron ...

Graphviz
Graphviz (short for ''Graph Visualization Software'') is a package of open-source software, open-source tools initiated by AT&T Labs, AT&T Labs Research for Graph drawing, drawing graph (discrete mathematics), graphs (as in Vertex (graph theory), nodes and Edge (graph theory), edges, not as in bar charts) specified in DOT (graph description language), DOT language scripts having the file name extension "gv". It also provides libraries for software applications to use the tools. Graphviz is free software licensed under the Eclipse Public License. Tools ; dot : a Command-line interface, command-line tool to produce layered graph drawing, layered graph drawings in a variety of output formats, such as (PostScript, PDF, Scalable Vector Graphics, SVG, annotated text and so on). ; neato : useful for undirected graphs up to about 1000 nodes. "Spring system, Spring model" layout minimizes global energy. ; fdp : force-directed graph drawing similar to "spring model", but minimizes forc ...

Microsoft Visio
Microsoft Visio (, ), formerly Microsoft Office Visio, is a diagramming and vector graphics application and is part of the Microsoft 365 Business. The product was first introduced in 1992 by former American software company Visio Corporation, and its latest version is Visio 2024. Microsoft acquired the assets of Visio Corporation in 2000 and thus also inherited the License#Patent licensing, licensing agreements for the Visio application. A lightweight version of Visio is now included with all commercial stock keeping unit, SKU of Microsoft 365 and is known as ''Visio in Microsoft 365''. It has two other subscription based SKUs. ''Visio Plan 1'' includes the Visio web app whereas ''Visio Plan 2'' provides access to both the web app and the Desktop application. Features Microsoft Visio is used to create diagram types such as flowcharts, organizational chart, org charts, floor plans, network diagrams, UML, UML diagrams, mind maps and more. It is also commonly used for scenarios su ...

XML Markup Languages
Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a markup language and file format for storing, transmitting, and reconstructing data. It defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The World Wide Web Consortium's XML 1.0 Specification of 1998 and several other related specifications—all of them free open standards—define XML. The design goals of XML emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability across the Internet. It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for different human languages. Although the design of XML focuses on documents, the language is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures, such as those used in web services. Several schema systems exist to aid in the definition of XML-based languages, while programmers have developed many application programming interfaces (APIs) to aid the processing of XML data. Overview The main purpose of XML is serialization, i.e. stor ...
