Craig Williams (British Politician)
Alun Craig Williams (born 7 June 1985) is a British Conservative Party politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cardiff North from 2015 to 2017 and at the 2019 general election was elected as the MP for Montgomeryshire. Since October 2022, he has served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. Early life and education Williams was born in Welshpool to David and Andrea Williams. He attended Gungrog Road school, Ysgol Maesydre and Welshpool High School. Parliamentary career Williams first stood for office in Cardiff West against the Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan in the 2007 National Assembly for Wales election. Williams had represented Pentyrch ward on City of Cardiff Council from 2008, and unsuccessfully contested the Cardiff South and Penarth by-election in 2012, coming second to Labour's Stephen Doughty. The United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, commonly referred to as the EU referendum or the Brexit referendum, took place on 23 June 2016 in the United Kingdom (UK) and Gibraltar to ask the electorate whether the country should remain a member of, or leave, the European Union (EU). Cardiff Bus ( cy, Bws Caerdydd) is the dominant operator of bus services in Cardiff, Wales and the surrounding area, including Barry and Penarth. The company is wholly owned by Cardiff Council and is one of the few municipal bus companies to remain in council ownership. History While horse buses (and later horse trams) had run in the city since 1845, Cardiff Bus can trace its history back to May 1902, when Cardiff Council took over and electrified a tram line between Roath and the city centre. Stephen John Doughty (born 15 April 1980) is a Welsh Labour and Co-operative Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cardiff South and Penarth since 2012. He has been the Shadow Minister for Africa and a Shadow Minister for International Development since 2020. Early life Doughty was born in Cardiff before his family moved to the Vale of Glamorgan. After attending Llantwit Major Comprehensive School, he studied at Lester B. Following the resignation of the sitting MP Alun Michael on 22 October 2012, a by-election for the Cardiff South and Penarth Westminster constituency was held on 15 November 2012. Stephen Doughty of the Labour Party won the election with 47.3% of the vote. Cardiff South and Penarth ( cy, De Caerdydd a Phenarth) is a constituency created in 1983 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2012 by Stephen Doughty, a Labour Co-op MP. It is the largest such entity in Wales, with an electorate of 75,175 and one of the most ethnically diverse.
