Corinne Drewery
Corinne Drewery (born 21 September 1959) is an English singer-songwriter and fashion designer, best known for being the lead vocalist of the band Swing Out Sister. Early life Drewery was born and grew up in Nottingham. She later moved to the Lincolnshire village of Authorpe and went to South Reston Primary School, then Monks' Dyke High School and King Edward VI Grammar School in nearby Louth, then Lincoln College. She grew up on the classic pop standards, since her father played in a band which was regular support to big stars like Tom Jones and Sandie Shaw. She was strongly influenced by Northern soul, visiting performances at the Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes, and referred to Northern soul tracks during an extensive interview on BBC Radio Nottingham. Her mother Elaine Drewery, also a former singer, is the founder of Hedgehog Care in Authorpe. Her brother Anton was also a singer and musician. Bayfront Park is a public, urban park in Downtown Miami, Florida on Biscayne Bay. The Chairman to the trust is Ary Shaeban. Breakout (Swing Out Sister Song)
"Breakout" is a song by British band Swing Out Sister. It was released in 1986 as the second single from their debut album '' It's Better to Travel''. The single reached the number four position in the UK in the autumn of 1986, and rose to number six on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in the US and number one on the Adult Contemporary in the US in 1987. The song also resulted in a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Background The single was written and performed while the group was still a trio. Martin Jackson
Martin Jackson (born 30 August 1955 in Manchester, England) is a British drummer who has played with several bands from Manchester, although his most successful roles were with Magazine in 1978 with the release of the influential ''Real Life'' album, and Swing Out Sister in 1986, with the hit song " Breakout". Biography His earliest work was alongside Chris Sievey, with whom he formed The Bees Knees, recording unreleased material, and The Freshies, around the mid-1970s. In 1977, he answered an ad placed by ex-Buzzcocks Howard Devoto, who solicited musicians to form a new band, and joined the fledgling Magazine, which began to be very influential among future rock musicians. He took part in the recording of the "Shot By Both Sides" single which the band performed on ''Top of the Pops'', and the album ''Real Life''. Andy Connell
Andrew John Connell (born 26 July 1961) is an English musician and composer. Along with Corinne Drewery, he is part of the duo that makes up Swing Out Sister. Born in Manchester, England, Connell played in the Manchester post-punk band The Immediates, before joining new wave funk pioneers, A Certain Ratio. He was also a member of the Manchester-based jazz/pop band Kalima who were signed to Factory Records, whilst he was also a member of A Certain Ratio. A few years later he teamed up with former Magazine drummer Martin Jackson and Greg Wilson, and they released an inventive electronic album called ''UK Electro'' in 1984. Swing Out Sister began in earnest in 1985, when Connell and Jackson teamed up with Corinne Drewery. Working Week (band)
Working Week were a British jazz-dance band active in the 1980s and 1990s. Working Week was formed in 1983 by guitarist Simon Emmerson, Simon Booth and saxophonist Larry Stabbins from the band Weekend (Welsh band), Weekend, which ended when singer Alison Statton left to become a schoolteacher. The duo released their debut single "Venceremos (We Will Win)" during the following year. The song was a tribute to Chilean protest singer Víctor Jara, with vocals by Robert Wyatt and Tracey Thorn (the latter from the band Everything but the Girl). It became the band's highest placing in the UK Singles Chart, where it peaked at No. 64. Hedgehog Care is a British animal welfare rescue, dedicated to the rescue and treatment of hedgehogs. It was founded in 1980 by Elaine Drewery, who continues to operate it. It started from small beginnings with her taking home injured hedgehogs she chanced upon. Then people began bringing animals they found to her and the rescue service grew from there. Drewery has been described as "the doyenne of England's hedgehog ladies" by the ''Wall Street Journal''. Hedgehog Care describes itself as "Lincolnshire's Famous Little Hedgehog Hospital." It is located in Authorpe, Lincolnshire. Hedgehog Care generally cares for 50-200 hedgehogs at any given time, and approximately 1,500 per year. Cleethorpes () is a seaside town on the estuary of the Humber in North East Lincolnshire, England with a population of 38,372 in 2020. Winter Gardens, Cleethorpes
The Winter Gardens in Cleethorpes, England, was an entertainment venue on the town's sea front. It accommodated over 500 people and held conference, dance, dinner and live band events. History Design commenced for the venue as an amusement hall in the 1920s. It started out as the art deco style Olympia in 1934, and it was built with compensation which local railway worker George Eyre received from an accident which resulted in his legs being amputated. George's wife, Rose, owned the land on which Olympia was erected. After the post-war refurbishment in December 1947, the establishment was reopened as the Winter Gardens. The Winter Gardens held a range of events including rock gigs, a Melody Night and a Tea Dance.
