Coraopolis Railroad Station
Coraopolis station is a disused train station in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. The train station was built in 1896 by the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, and designed by architects Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge in Richardsonian Romanesque style. Overview According to the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, the "use of this particular style in the Pittsburgh area, especially work by Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, represents an important aspect of the architectural history of the Pittsburgh area." The building and its sister stations in Glassport and New Castle were constructed in the late 1890s as part of an expansion of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad's commuter line into the suburbs of Pittsburgh. The building was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation in 1978. Coraopolis () is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,559 at the 2020 census. In 1940, the population peaked at 11,086. Coraopolis is located west of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River and to the east of the Pittsburgh International Airport. Ohio River Trail
The Ohio River Greenway Trail (ORT) is a proposed route that would interconnect existing trails in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The proposal is spearheaded by the Ohio River Trail Council (ORTC), a volunteer-led, non-profit organization. The Montour Trail is a multi-use recreational rail trail near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was formerly the Montour Railroad. It has a mostly crushed limestone with partially asphalt surface, appropriate for bicycling, walking, running, and cross-country skiing.
