Community School (Ireland)
A community school () in the Republic of Ireland is a type of secondary school funded individually and directly by the state. Community and comprehensive schools were established in the 1960s to provide a broad curriculum for all the young people in a community. Both academic and vocational programmes are available and facilities are broader than at voluntary or vocational schools. The facilities are for use by the community and adult education in addition to normal programmes of education at this level. Many of these schools were established as the result of an amalgamation of voluntary secondary and vocational schools. They offer a wide range of both academic and vocational subjects. Community schools are managed by boards of management which are representative of local interests. The schools are financed entirely by the Department of Education and Skills. Gorey Community School
Gorey Community School is located in Gorey County Wexford, Ireland. It is the largest school in Ireland, and (as of 2018) had over 1500 students enrolled. History Gorey Community School was established in 1993, following the amalgamation of the nearby Christian Brothers School (CBS), Vocational College and Loreto Abbey schools. When the amalgamated school first opened, it had 1297 students enrolled. As of 2018, the school had a student population of over 1500, and a teaching staff of more than 100. The school occupies a large site of almost which comprises playing fields, basketball courts, and tennis courts. In 2000 a new extension was opened. Glanmire () is a suburban town from Cork city centre, in the civil parish of Rathcooney, County Cork, Ireland. Glanmire is within the administrative area of Cork City Council and the Dáil constituency of Cork North-Central. Douglas Community School, also known as Douglas Com, The Com or DCS, is an all-boys community school in Douglas, Cork, Ireland. It was founded as Coláiste Muire by the Presentation Brothers in 1926 as a juniorate (i.e. for lower-cycle secondary students). In 1965 it became a full secondary school. In 1974, it became one of the first "community schools" in Ireland, when it was transferred by the Presentation Brothers to a local board of management. Carrigaline Community School
Carrigaline () is a town and civil parish in County Cork, Ireland, situated on the River Owenabue. Located about south of Cork city, and with a population of 15,770 people, it is one of the largest commuter towns of the city. The R611 regional road passes through the town, and it is just off the N28 national primary route to Ringaskiddy. Carrigaline grew rapidly in the late 20th century, from a village of a few hundred people into a thriving commuter town although some locals still refer to it as "the village".
