Colombo City Centre
Colombo City Centre is a 47-storey mixed-use development, comprising a five-storey retail space, a 164-room hotel and 192 residential apartments. The building is situated opposite Beira Lake, located at Sir James Pieris Mawatha, Colombo 02. The development was a joint venture between local company, the Abans Group, and Singaporean company, SilverNeedle Hospitality, at an estimated cost of US$170M. As of 2021, it is wholly owned by Abans Group. The construction was undertaken by Sanken Construction (Pvt.) Ltd. On the third storey of the retail mall will be a 415-seat food court, with 18-20 food outlets, operated by Food Studio (Sri Lanka). The hotel will be operated by Next Hotels. The ''Daily News'' is an English-language newspaper in Sri Lanka. It is now published by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House), a government-owned corporation. The newspaper commenced publishing on 3 January 1918. D. R. Wijewardena was its founder. The present-day newspaper is written as a broadsheet, with photographs printed both in color and black and white. Weekday printings include the main section, containing news on national affairs, international affairs, business, political analysis, sports, editorials and opinions. Beira Lake (/bˈɐjɾɐ/; Sinhalese: බේරේ වැව, translit. ''Bērē væva''; Tami: பேரே ஏரி, translit. ''Pērē ēri'') is a lake in the centre of the city of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The lake is surrounded by many large businesses in the city. It initially occupied approximately of land 100 years ago and this has since been reduced to today due to various reasons. During the colonial era of the Portuguese, Dutch and the English the lake was used for a wide variety of purposes. It still retains its Portuguese name. It is connected to many intricate canals which provided an easy way of transporting goods within the city and suburban cities.
