Colombian Mexicans
There is a significant Colombian diaspora in Mexico. According to the 2020 census, there were 36,234 Colombian citizens residing in Mexico,https://www.inegi.org.mx/temas/migracion making them the second largest South American immigrant community in Mexico. Migration history After Mexico's independence from Spain, the presence of Colombian people in Mexico was almost nonexistent, although over the years there was an increase of some Colombian immigrants for various reasons in Mexican territory. In the 1895 Census, sixty-seven Colombia-born individuals were counted as residents. It was not until the 1970s when the presence of Colombians increased under the protection of political asylum as refugees by the Mexican government because of the Colombian guerrilla problems fleeing from their country during the 80s and many of them were protected and kept anonymous to avoid persecution. Colombian Spanish
Colombian Spanish (Spanish: ''español colombiano'') is a grouping of the varieties of Spanish spoken in Colombia. The term is of more geographical than linguistic relevance, since the dialects spoken in the various regions of Colombia are quite diverse. Excélsior
''Excélsior'' is a daily newspaper in Mexico City. It is the second oldest paper in the city after '' El Universal'', printing its first issue on March 18, 1917. History ''Excélsior'' was founded by Rafael Alducin and first published in Mexico City on March 18, 1917. In 1924, Alducin died at the age of 35, and his family led the newspaper into difficult times. Ultimately, it was reconstituted as a worker-owned cooperative in 1932, with one-time accountant Gilberto Figueroa named general manager. His ability to manage finances and broker compromise within the newspaper contributed to a successful 30-year reign, in which the newspaper would become politically and economically stable. Sofía Álvarez Caicedo (23 May 1913 – 30 April 1985) was a Colombian-Mexican actress and singer. She is best remembered for her work in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. Her film debut was a small part, in the role of a prostitute in ''Santa'' (1930), the first talkie of Mexican cinema. Daniel Arenas Consuegra (born March 30, 1979) is a Colombian actor who has worked in both Colombia and Mexican television. Fernando Vallejo Rendón (born 1942 in Medellín, Colombia) is a Colombian-born novelist, filmmaker and essayist. He obtained Mexican nationality in 2007. Biography Vallejo was born and raised in Medellín, though he left his hometown early in life. He started studies in Philosophy at Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, but after one year he abandoned the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. Soon after he began new studies on biology at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, which he finished. Rómulo Rozo Peña (1899 Bogota – 1964 Mérida, Yucatán) was a sculptor. Some authors confirm that he was born in Chiquinquirá, Boyacá. He lived a major part of his life in Mexico. He married Ana Krauss in Czechoslovakia and had three children: Rómulo, Gloria and Leticia. His second wife was Manuela Vera, yucateca, with whom he had two children: Marco Antonio and Gloria Antonia.
