Claude Beauchamp
Claude Beauchamp (July 9, 1939 – April 12, 2020) was a journalist, publisher, and political activist in the Canadian province of Quebec. He was born in Montreal. Journalist and publisher Beauchamp began his career as a financial writer for '' La Presse'' and served as assistant publisher and editor-in-chief of ''Le Soleil'' in the late 1970s. He became president and general manager of Publications Les Affaires Inc. in 1980, one year after the company purchased the business journal ''Les Affaires''. Beauchamp relaunched the journal as a tabloid and later oversaw the company's purchase of smaller, niche-oriented papers such as ''Quebec Construction'', ''Revue Commerce'', ''Quebec Yachting'', ''VeliMag'', ''Voile Libre'', ''Ski Quebec'', and ''Sports Marketing Canada''. Corporate revenues rose under Beauchamp's leadership from less than $1 million in 1980 to $13 million in 1985. 1992 Canadian Referendum
The Charlottetown Accord (french: Accord de Charlottetown) was a package of proposed amendments to the Constitution of Canada, proposed by the Canadian federal and provincial governments in 1992. It was submitted to a public referendum on October 26 and was defeated. Background The Statute of Westminster (1931) gave Canada legislative independence from the United Kingdom. Canada requested that the British North America Acts (the written portions of the Constitution of Canada) be exempted from the statute because the federal and provincial governments could not agree upon an amending formula for the acts. Pierre Bourque (born 29 May 1942) is a businessman and politician in Quebec, Canada. He founded the Vision Montreal political party and served as mayor of Montreal from 1994 to 2001. Action Montreal was a short-lived municipal political party in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, that existed from February to April 1994 under the leadership of entrepreneur Claude Beauchamp. Origins and platform Beauchamp began his campaign for mayor of Montreal in November 1993 as the leader of a new and as-yet-unnamed political movement. He formally launched Action Montreal on February 10, 1994, and indicated that the party would soon begin recruiting candidates for city council.
