Chung Cheng High School (Main)
Chung Cheng High School (Main) is a co-educational government-aided autonomous Special Assistance Plan (SAP) secondary school in Singapore. Founded in 1939, it is one of the eleven SAP schools in Singapore. History Foundation years (1939–1947) Chung Cheng High School was first founded by Aw Boon Haw and other philanthropists. Construction of the school building started at 60 Kim Yam Road in 1939. The founding principal of the school was Chuang Chu Lin and the school's first school supervisor was Lim Bo Seng. Aw Boon Haw was the founding chairman of the school management board. Some of the founders were politically affiliated with Kuomintang and decided to name the school Chung Cheng after Chiang Chung-cheng, Premier of the Republic of China, to attract students and boost the school's reputation. Special Assistance Plan
The Special Assistance Plan (SAP; ) is a programme in Singapore introduced in 1979 which caters to academically strong students who excel in both their mother tongue as well as English. It is available only in selected primary and secondary schools. In a SAP school, several subjects may be taught in the mother tongue, alongside other subjects that are taught in English. SAP schools currently cater only to those studying Mandarin as their mother tongue although theoretically, future SAP schools for other mother tongues are a possibility. Chan Soo Sen
Chan Soo Sen ( zh, s=曾士生, p=Zēng Shìshēng; born 1 October 1956) is a Singaporean former politician from the People's Action Party. He was the Member of Parliament representing the Joo Chiat ward in the East Coast Group Representation Constituency from 1997 to 2001 and the Joo Chiat Single Member Constituency from 2001 to 2011. Cultural Medallion
The Cultural Medallion is a cultural award in Singapore conferred to those who have achieved artistic excellence in dance, theatre, literature, music, photography, art and film. It is widely recognized as Singapore's pinnacle arts award. History The award was instituted in March 1979 by Minister for Culture Ong Teng Cheong and administered by the National Arts Council. The awards was given by the Minister for Culture. Since 2006, the award was presented by the President of Singapore instead of the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts (previously known as Minister for Culture). Lim Tze Peng
Lim Tze Peng (, born 28 September 1921) is a Singaporean artist who is a teacher by training and profession. He was awarded a Cultural Medallion in 2003 in recognition of his contribution to the country's art and culture. In June 2021, it was reported that he was still producing art at the age of 99. Biography Lim was born in 1921 to a family of pig and chicken farmers in Pasir Ris. He is the eldest of seven children. Lim studied at Guangyang Primary School and Chung Cheng High School. In 1949, Lim became a primary school teacher at Xin Min School and then became principal in 1951. He remained as principal till he retired in 1981. Painting career Lim started to learn to paint in his twenties and after his retirement, started to paint professionally. Lee Chiaw Meng
Lee Chiaw Meng (; 28 February 1937 – 23 May 2001) was a Singaporean politician who served as Minister of Education between 1972 and 1975, and Minister of Science and Technology between 1975 and 1976. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Farrer Park SMC between 1968 and 1976, and Tanah Merah SMC between 1980 and 1984. Early life and education Lee was educated at Catholic High School and Chung Cheng High School before graduating from the University of Malaya in 1960 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Kang Cheng Xi
Kang Cheng Xi (born 5 December 1984), also known as Jiang Chengxi, is a Singaporean actor. He first entered showbiz through the competition Star Idol but has since left MediaCorp to concentrate on university studies. He is currently a cabin crew. Former National Stadium, Singapore
The former Singapore National Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Kallang, which opened in July 1973 and closed on 30 June 2007. The stadium was demolished from 2010 to 2011 for the development of the Singapore Sports Hub, which houses its successor. During its closure from 2007 to 2014, the National Day Parade (NDP) and sports events were held at the Marina Bay Floating Platform and Jalan Besar Stadium. The stadium was prominently the home of Singapore FA, a club side, and the Singapore national team. It also hosted the Singapore Cup finals annually, the first in 1996, and the second leg of the 2004 AFF Championship finals. Yuying Secondary () was founded by the Hainanese Community in 1910 as a Chinese medium high school. Today, it follows the mainstream public education system and offers the Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ and ‘N’ Levels.
