Chotěboř (; german: Chotieborsch) is a town in Havlíčkův Brod District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 9,000 inhabitants. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts Villages and hamlets of Bílek, Dobkov, Klouzovy, Počátky, Příjemky, Rankov, Střížov and Svinný are administrative parts of Chotěboř. Etymology The name is derived from the personal name Chotěbor. There was the Chotěbor's manor, owned probably by the noble Chotěbor of Vchynice. Geography Chotěboř is located about northeast of Havlíčkův Brod and north of Jihlava. It lies in the Upper Sázava Hills. There are several fish ponds on the outskirts of the town. Matěj Vydra
Matěj Vydra (, born 1 May 1992) is a Czech professional footballer who plays as a striker for Viktoria Plzeň and the Czech Republic national team. Vydra previously played for FC Chotěboř, Vysočina Jihlava, Baník Ostrava, Club Brugge, Udinese, Watford, Derby County and Burnley. He spent two loan spells at Watford. Fritz Richard
Fritz Richard (born Josef Richard Löwit; 17 November 1869 – 9 February 1933) was an Austrian actor and theatre director. Fritz Richard was born as Josef Richard Löwit in Chotěboř, Austria-Hungary into a Jewish family. Richard trained as a stenographer and took acting lessons in Vienna at the Pauline Loewe Theatre School. His first engagement as a stage actor was in Mülheim in 1886. He then appeared at various Austrian and German provincial theatres. From Metz in 1905 his path took him to Berlin, where he mainly worked at the Deutsches Theater and the Lessing Theater. He was part of Max Reinhardt's ensemble. He was particularly successful in Karl Schönherr's ''Der Weibsteufel and as Jedermann''. From 1913 Richard also took part in numerous silent films. Richard married his fellow student Friederike Raithel in 1898, who later also became an actress under the name Frida Richard. Richard died in Berlin shortly after Adolf Hitler came to power. František Sláma (politician)
Dr. František Sláma (3 November 1850 in Chotěboř – 25 April 1917 in Brno) was a Czech writer, traveller, lawyer and politician. He is known as the first person who spread the knowledge about Silesia to the Czech lands. He came to Silesia in 1882 when began working as a judge in Cieszyn, the centre of the Duchy of Teschen. He then decided to travel across the Silesian territory, as he was fascinated by local history and traditions. His travels are documented in his most known book ''Vlastenecké putování po Slezsku'' (Patriotic Journeys through Silesia). He was also a deputy in the Bohemian Diet in Prague from 1895 to 1907, and in the Austrian House of Deputies in Vienna from 1891 to 1911. Ignát Herrmann
Ignát Herrmann (12 August 1854 in Chotěboř – 8 July 1935 in Řevnice) was a Czech novelist, satirist and editor. He sometimes used the pseudonym ''Vojta Machatý, Švanda''. The thirteenth child of a solicitor's copyist, he attended school in Hradec Králové, then in 1868 travelled to Prague to begin a career in retail. He worked for several companies, from 1873 for the publisher Otto-Verlag, for whom he became a courtroom reporter. From 1876 to 1878 he edited the satirical magazine ''Paleček''; in 1882 he founded his own, ''Švanda dudák'', which he edited almost continuously until 1930. He worked for several years at a law firm before becoming, in 1885, editor of the ''Národní listy'', for which he had been an administrator.
