Chkheidze ( ka, ჩხეიძე, russian: Чхеи́дзе) is a Georgian family name which is – apart from the capital Tbilisi – most frequently to be found in the western Adjara, Guria and Imereti and the eastern Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions of Georgia. Most ''Chkheidzes'' live in the Tbilisi (1,026), Khoni (260), Kutaisi (206), Zestafoni (183), Batumi (118), Baghdati (107) and Rustavi (89) districts. Chkheidze were dukes of Duchy of Racha. Nikolay Chkheidze
Nikoloz Chkheidze ( ka, ნიკოლოზ (კარლო) ჩხეიძე; russian: Никола́й (Карло) Семёнович Чхеи́дзе, translit=Nikolay (Karlo) Semyonovich Chkheidze) commonly known as Karlo Chkheidze ( – 13 June 1926), was a Georgian politician. In the 1890s, he promoted the Social Democratic movement in Georgia. He became a key figure in the Russian Revolution (February 1917 to October 1917) as the Menshevik president of the Executive Committee of the Soviet of Petrograd (until September 1917). Later he served as president of the Transcaucasian Sejm (February 1918 to May 1918), and he held office in the Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic (April–May 1918). Later he became president of parliamentary assemblies of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, National Council, Constituent Assembly and Parliament (May 1918 to March 1921). Revaz "Rezo" Chkheidze ( ka, რევაზ "რეზო" ჩხეიძე; 8 December 1926 – 3 May 2015) was a Georgian film director, People's Artist of the USSR, best known for his Soviet-era drama films, including his 1964 World War II-themed ''Father of a Soldier''. Biography Born in Kutaisi in the family of the writer Davit Chkheidze (he would be executed during the Great Purge in 1937), Chkheidze studied acting at Tbilisi State Institute of Theatre from 1943 to 1946 and continued his education under Sergei Yutkevich and Mikhail Romm at VGIK in Moscow from 1949 to 1953. Chkheidze directed twelve films and a TV miniseries between 1953 and 2008. He rose to fame with ''Magdana's Donkey'', co-directed with Tengiz Abuladze, which won the Best Fiction Short award at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. Nato Chkheidze (Georgian: ნატო ჩხეიძე, born on June 1, 1960) is a Georgian businesswoman and politician, co-founder of the Omega Group with her husband Zaza Okuashvili, and a member of Parliament in 1999-2004 and since 2020. Born in the family of author Otar Chkheidze, she became a doctor in the last years of Soviet Georgia and launched her political career in 1999 by being elected to the Parliament of Georgia as a member of the Traditionalist Party. Konstantin Alexandrovich Chkheidze ( cz, Konstantin Alexandrovič Čcheidze, ka, კონსტანტინე ჩხეიძე, russian: Константин Александрович Чхеидзе) (19 September 1897 – 28 July 1974) was a Czech-Georgian-Russian writer, philosopher, and White émigré. Born to a Georgian father, of the noble family of Chkheidze, and a Russian mother, Chkheidze entered the Imperial Russian military service and fought on the side of White armies during the civil war in the North Caucasus. In 1921, as part of the defeated White Cossack forces, Chkheidze was evacuated to Lemnos whence he moved to Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1923. The Duchy of Racha ( ka, რაჭის საერისთავო, ''rach'is saerist'avo'') was an important fiefdom in medieval and early modern Georgia, located in the western province of Racha, in the upper Rioni Valley in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus crest, and ruled by a succession of ''eristavi'' ("dukes") from c. 1050 until being transferred to the royal crown in 1789. History The duchy of Racha was founded c. 1050, when a branch of the Liparitid family, subsequently known as Kakhaberidze, was enfeoffed of it by King Bagrat IV of Georgia. Alexandre Chkheidze
Alexandre Chkheidze, also known under his Polish name of Aleksander Czcheidze (1878–1940), was a Polish- Georgian military officer. He served with the rank of Colonel in the armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Georgia during the short period of its independence following World War I. Following the Bolshevik occupation of his country, Chkheidze (along with thousands of other Georgian officers) migrated to Poland, where he received further training in the Higher War School. He was then admitted to the Polish Army as a ''contract officer'' and served as the Commander of Infantry (de facto deputy commander) of the Polish 16th Infantry Division. He took part in the Polish Defensive War of 1939 and fought with distinction in a number of battles. Nina "Nutsa" Platonovna Chkheidze ( ka, ინო (ნუცა) პლატონის ასული ჩხეიძე; russian: Нина "Нуца" Платоновна Чхеидзе; 30 September, 1881 – 14 August, 1963) was a Georgian-born Soviet actress. She was born in Kutaisi. Her mother and sisters were both actresses. She was the pupil of Lado Aleksi-Meskhishvili. Chkheidze was the first tragic actress in Georgia at just 13 years old when she first came out on stage. In 1894, she took on the role of a little girl called Emma in a performance of "Offender's Family" staged in Kutaisi Theatre and directed by Kote Meskhi. In 1925, she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Georgian SSR. Otar Chkheidze (28 November 1920. Village Kelktseuli, region of Gori, Georgia – 2007) Georgian writer, literary man, PhD (1949).
