Chișineu-Criș
Chișineu-Criș ( Hungarian: ''Kisjenő'') is a town in Arad County, Crișana, Romania. Geography The town is situated on the north-western side of the county, at a distance from Arad, the county seat. The administrative territory stretches over on the Crișul Alb Plateau, on both sides of the river Crișul Alb. The town was formed by merging the villages of Chișineu Mic and Pădureni. The town administers one village, Nădab (''Nadab''). Demographics In 1910, the town had 2821 inhabitants: 1376 (48.8%) spoke Hungarian, 1355 (48%) spoke Romanian, 49 (1.7%) spoke German. In 2011, 73.5% of inhabitants were Romanians, 19.3% Hungarians and 6.3% Roma. Economy Although the town economy is predominant agricultural, during the last decade the second and third economic sectors had a growing evolution. Gheorghe Gaston Marin
Gheorghe Gaston Marin (April 14, 1918, Chișineu-Criș – February 25, 2010, Bucharest) was a Romanian communist politician who had many roles under Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej and Nicolae Ceaușescu. He was born Gheorghe Grossmann in Pădureni, Arad County. In the 1980s, he emigrated to Israel, but later returned to Bucharest, where he died. He was born into a wealthy Jewish family in northern Transylvania. In his youth, he was a member of Poalei Zion. In 1936, he moved to Paris to study mathematics and physics at the Sorbonne. Marin studied electrical engineering at Grenoble, France between 1938 and 1940. Like most other Romanian Jews, he lost his Romanian citizenship in 1938. In 1940, he served with the French Army. In 1940, Northern Transylvania was transferred under the Second Vienna Award from Romania to Hungary, and as such his parents and siblings came under Hungarian rule. Ioan "John" Balaban (13 April 1924 – 26 August 1953) was a Romanian-born serial killer who confessed to murdering five people in France and Australia. Adalbert Boros
Dr.Dr. Adalbert (Béla) Boros (September 20, 1908 – June 6, 2003) was a Romanian Roman Catholic prelate of Hungarian ethnicity, Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Timișoara. Born in a Hungarian family in Pădureni, now part of Chişineu-Criş, he graduated from the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum in Rome and was ordained a priest in 1932. He taught philosophy and dogma at the theological seminary in Timișoara before becoming rector. In 1948, following the advent of the communist regime, he was named auxiliary bishop of Timișoara and was secretly consecrated in Bucharest. Together with Bishop Augustin Pacha and other prominent Catholics, he was arrested, given a show trial and sentenced to life imprisonment. Released in 1964, he was not allowed to perform the duties of a bishop until the fall of the regime, instead having to work as a chaplain in Timișoara.
