The Chief of the Navy ( no, Sjef Sjøforsvaret) is the Commander–in–chief of the Royal Norwegian Navy. The Chief of the Navy is head over the Naval Staff, the Coast Guard, The Fleet and the main naval bases. Presiding over close to 3600 soldiers, the Chief of the Navy has great responsibility to lead and defend. With the seas under his discretion, the Chief of the Navy watches over the seas which are seven times greater in area than that of Norway's mainland. The Chief of Defence (''Forsvarssjefen'') is the highest-ranking officer of the Norwegian Armed Forces, second only to the King of Norway. Even though he holds the same rank as the King of Norway, according to the Norwegian Constitution the King holds the highest command of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Home Guard. Edvard Christian Danielsen
Edvard Christian Danielsen (14 April 1888 – 30 January 1964) was a Norwegian naval officer. He held the rank of Vice admiral in the Royal Norwegian Navy and was chief of the admiral staff in London during World War II. Personal life Danielsen was born at Mandal in Vest-Agder, Norway. He was the son of Daniel D. Danielsen (1842-95) and Margrethe Cecilie Jensen (1855-1939). He married Julie Lie Torjussen in 1915. Military career Danielsen started as a cadet in the Royal Norwegian Naval Academy in 1906 and graduated in 1909. Danielsen entered the Royal Norwegian Navy and was in continuous submarine service from 1917 until 1936. He was appointed to captain in 1924 and was chief of the submarine division from 1934 to 1936. Haakon Bruun-Hanssen
Haakon Stephen Bruun-Hanssen (born 8 July 1960, in Bergen) is a Norwegian officer with the rank of Admiral and Inspector General of the Navy. He was appointed head of the operational headquarters of the Norwegian Armed Forces and Chief of Defence from 2013 to 2020. He retired in August 2020, and Eirik Kristoffersen was appointed as his replacement. Charles Oluf Herlofson
Charles Oluf Herlofson, (28 March 1916 – 4 December 1984) was a Norwegian naval officer. He was highly decorated for his achievements during World War II. Personal life Herlofson was born in Kristiania to Charles Herlofson and Ellinor Boe. He graduated as naval officer in 1939. In 1945 he married Lydia Grace Edney. Career During World War II he joined the Norwegian forces in the United Kingdom. He served with the Norwegian Motor Torpedo Boat flotilla at Shetland, and took part in several raids to the coast of occupied Norway.
