Chevrolet Celebrity
The Chevrolet Celebrity is a mid-size automobile that was produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors from the 1982 to 1990 model years. Replacing the Malibu, the Celebrity was initially slotted between the Citation and the Impala within the Chevrolet model line, eventually marketed between the Corsica and Caprice sedans. The Celebrity marked the transition of the GM A platform to front-wheel drive and was among a quartet of GM mid-size vehicles produced on the architecture. Sharing its roofline with the Buick Century, the Celebrity also shared design commonality with the Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera/Cutlass Cruiser, and the Pontiac 6000. After a single generation of the model line was produced, the Celebrity sedan was discontinued after the 1989 model year and replaced by the Lumina; the Celebrity station wagon was replaced by the Lumina APV minivan after 1990. Chevrolet ( ), colloquially referred to as Chevy and formally the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Company, is an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors (GM). Louis Chevrolet (1878–1941) and ousted General Motors founder William C. Durant (1861–1947) started the company on November 3, 1911 as the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. Oklahoma City Assembly
Oklahoma City Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. History Construction on the plant started in 1974, and it opened in 1979 to produce the newly designed X-body cars for the 1980 model year. After X-body cars came A-body cars (1985-1996) and then the plant began producing the Oldsmobile Cutlass through 1999 and Chevrolet Malibu through 2001. The company spent $700,000,000 to convert the plant from building the Chevrolet Malibu to building the all-new GMT360 SUVs (Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Oldsmobile Bravada) in 2001 for the 2002 model year. The plant was damaged by a tornado on May 8, 2003, but the company repaired the damage and returned the plant to operations just 53 days later. Fremont Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory in Fremont, California in the San Francisco area, replacing the older Oakland Assembly. Groundbreaking for the plant occurred in September 1961, and the plant produced its first vehicle on May 1, 1963. Production continued through March 1, 1982, when the plant was closed after production problems. Framingham Assembly was a General Motors factory in Framingham, Massachusetts which opened in 1947. History and models The plant was built on the location of Framingham Airport, and ground was broken in 1945. The plant cost $12 million ($ in dollars ) and was one of three new plants that year. At one point, the Framingham Assembly plant was one of the largest automotive manufacturing plants in the United States, employing over 5,000 workers from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. Ramos Arizpe () is a city and seat of the surrounding municipality of the same name in the Mexican state of Coahuila. Ramos Arizpe is located 11 km from the state capital of Saltillo. Sainte-Thérèse Assembly
Sainte-Thérèse Assembly was a General Motors Canada automobile factory located in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. History The factory opened in 1966. It was located in the Montreal suburb of Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. It later was the site for production of the F-body Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. The plant closed in 2002 and was demolished. In the mid-1980s, the plant was facing closure due to high absenteeism and low quality of the G-body cars built there. However, a new labor pact and improved quality, plus the availability of government-backed interest-free loans, prompted GM to expand and modernize the facility.
