Charles G. Myers (1810 – December 27, 1881) was an American lawyer and politician. Life Myers was born in 1810 in Madrid, St. Lawrence County, New York. He attended St. Lawrence Academy in Potsdam. In 1825, he began to study law in the office of Gouverneur Ogden in Waddington, was admitted to the bar in 1832, and practiced law in Ogdensburg. He was Surrogate of St. Lawrence County from 1844 to 1847. In 1847 he was living at Oswegatchie. He was a member from St. Lawrence County of the New York State Assembly in 1848."Charles G. Madrid, New York
Madrid ( ) is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York. The population was 1,735 at the time of the 2010 census. The town is named after the capital of Spain. Madrid is in the northern part of the county, north of Canton. Madrid-Waddington Central School serves the town of Madrid, but outside the population center. History Madrid was first settled around 1801. The town was one of the four original towns created along with the county in 1802. It was formed from the town of Lisbon. The south part of Madrid was lost to form the town of Potsdam in 1806. The town gave up territory for the new town of Waddington in 1859. During the War of 1812, Madrid, due to its proximity to Canada, developed a town militia, the "South Madrid Militia". After a more diverse economy, including mining and logging, the primary industry became farming, and the commercial presence is solely to support the residents. Erie Canal Commission
The Commission to Explore a Route for a Canal to Lake Erie and Report, known as the Erie Canal Commission, was a body created by the New York State Legislature in 1810 to plan the Erie Canal. In 1817 a ''Canal Fund'' led by ''Commissioners of the Canal Fund'' was established to oversee the funding of construction of the canal. In 1826 a ''Canal Board'', of which both the planning commissioners and the Canal Fund commissioners were members, was created to take control of the operational canal. The term "Canal Commission" was at times applied to any of these bodies. Afterwards the canal commissioners were minor state cabinet officers responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the state's canals. The office of Canal Commissioner was abolished in 1876, and their responsibilities were taken over by the Superintendent of Public Works in February 1878. Lyman Tremain
Lyman Tremain (June 14, 1819, in Durham, Greene County, New York – November 30, 1878, in New York City) was a jurist and politician from New York. Biography He was admitted to the bar in 1840 and practiced in Durham, where he was elected to his first political office as town supervisor in 1842. He was appointed District Attorney of Greene County in 1844. He was elected Surrogate in 1846, but lost reelection in 1851. He moved to Albany, New York in 1853 and entered into partnership with former Congressman Rufus Wheeler Peckham in 1855. Elected as a Democrat, he was New York State Attorney General from January 1, 1858, to December 31, 1859. He ran unsuccessfully as the Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 1862.
