Charles B. Wheeler (United States Army General)
Charles Bertan Wheeler Jr. (August 10, 1926 – October 25, 2022) was an American physician and politician who served as a Missouri state senator and as mayor of Kansas City, Missouri from 1971 to 1979, in addition to having held other elected offices. Life and career Born at Trinity Lutheran Hospital on August 10, 1926, Wheeler graduated from Westport High School in 1942. A third generation physician, Wheeler entered Kansas City Junior College in 1942, transferring to University of Louisville in 1944 and earned a B.A. in 1946. From March 1944 through February 1946, Wheeler was simultaneously serving in the US Navy. In 1946, he entered the University of Kansas, earning an M.D. in 1950. His internship was at Charity Hospital in New Orleans in 1950. Wheeler joined the US Air Force in July 1950, serving until July 1953 as a Captain and Flight Surgeon to the original group of the Thunderbirds, the Air Force aerial acrobatic team. Harry Wiggins
Harry Wiggins (August 1, 1932 – July 31, 2004) was an American politician who served in the Missouri Senate. He served in the U.S. Army between 1957 and 1959. On August 18, 1961, he was appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy Robert Francis Kennedy (November 20, 1925June 6, 1968), also known by his initials RFK and by the nickname Bobby, was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 64th United States Attorney General from January 1961 to September 1964, ..., serving until April 1, 1967. In 1972, Wiggins served as Missouri state coordinator for George McGovern. He served as Kansas City's first senate majority floor leader from 1980 until 1984. The Mayor of Kansas City, Missouri is the highest official in the Kansas City, Missouri Municipal Government. Since the 1920s the city has had a council-manager government in which a city manager runs most of the day-to-day operations of the city. Unlike most cities of its size, by charter Kansas City has a "weak-mayor" system, in which most of the power is formally vested in the city council. However, the mayor is very influential in drafting and guiding public policy. The mayor presides over all city council meetings and has a casting vote on the council. Due to these combined factors the mayor, in fact, holds a significant amount of de facto power in the city government. Research Medical Center
Research Medical Center is a 590-bed hospital located in Kansas City, Missouri at 2316 East Meyer Boulevard. It is part of the HCA Midwest Division. Background German Hospital was originally established in 1886 in a brick farmhouse near present day East 23rd Street & Holmes Street. A new hospital building was built at the same location in 1911 and was renamed Research Hospital in 1918. On August 11, 1963, Research Medical Center opened at its present day location at Meyer Boulevard and Prospect. On December 5, 1972, former President Harry S. Truman was admitted to Kansas City's Research Hospital and Medical Center with lung congestion from pneumonia. He developed multiple organ failure and died three weeks later at 7:50 am on December 26 at the age of 88.
