Chand Burke
Chand Burke (2 February 1932 – 28 December 2008), also known as Chand Burque, was an Indian character actress in Hindi and Punjabi language films. She was the paternal grandmother of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. Career Chand Burke made her debut in Maheshwari Productions’ Kahan Gaye (1946). Chand appeared in a number of films made in Lahore, and was widely known as “the Dancing Lily of the Punjab.” The Partition of India led to her migration to Mumbai (then Bombay) thus adversely affecting her career. She was given her first break in Bollywood by the veteran actor Raj Kapoor in the award-winning film titled, '' Boot Polish (1954)'', where she played the pivotal role of Baby Naaz & Rattan Kumar's tormenting aunt. Punjab Province (British India)
Punjab was a province of British India. Most of the Punjab region was annexed by the East India Company in 2 April 1849, and declared a province of British Rule, it was one of the last areas of the Indian subcontinent to fall under British control. In 1858, the Punjab, along with the rest of British India, came under the direct rule of the British Crown. It had an area of 358,354.5 km2. ''Posti'' is a 1950 Indian Punjabi-language film and the first production of Kwatra Production (of Sardul Singh Kwatra and Harcharan Singh Kwatra), directed by K. D. Mehra (Krishan Dev Mehra), starring Majnu and Shyama in the lead roles. Shyama was the principal female actress of this movie. It did well at the box office in the Punjab and Delhi areas. Noted playback singer, Asha Bhosle, made her debut with the film. Music The music, composed by Sardul Singh Kwatra, played a major role in the film's success. Sardul modified the folk tunes of Punjab and the songs were hits. Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi, Shamshad Begum, Rajkumari and Jagjit Kaur were the playback singers. Rajkumari first sang for a Punjabi Kurhmai in 1941, but in the film ''Posti'', her songs became real hits. ''Adalat'' is a 1958 Bollywood drama film directed by Kalidas, starring Pradeep Kumar, Nargis and Pran in lead roles.
