Nereididae
Nereididae (formerly spelled Nereidae) are a family of polychaete worms. It contains about 500 – mostly marine – species grouped into 42 genera. They may be commonly called ragworms or clam worms. Characteristics The prostomium of Nereididae bears a pair of palps that are differentiated into two units, the proximal unit is much larger than the distal unit. Parapodia are mostly biramous (only the first two pairs are uniramous). Peristomium fused with the first body segment, with usually two pairs of tentacular cirri. The first body segment with 1-2 pairs tentacular cirri without aciculae. Compound setae present. Notopodia are distinct (rarely reduced), usually with more flattened lobes, notosetae compound falcigers and/or spinigers (rarely notosetae absent). They have two prostomial antennae (absent in ''Micronereis''). Johan Gustaf Hjalmar Kinberg (13 May 1820 – 29 August 1908) was a Swedish zoologist, physician and veterinarian who was born in Grönby, near Trelleborg, Skåne County and who died in St. Matthew's Parish, Stockholm. Family Hjalmar Kinberg's father was a rural dean, as was his grandfather, . His mother, Margareta Lovisa Schlyter, was the sister of Professor Carl Johan Schlyter, a noted Swedish lawyer and academic. Kinberg married twice, first, in 1854, to Helena Stockenberg (1831–1858). After the death of his first wife, he married again in 1859 to Aurore Hammarskjöld. He had two children: Arvid Gustaf Kinberg who was born in 1860 and Gottfrid Hilding Kinberg who was born in 1874. Polychaete
Polychaeta () is a paraphyletic class of generally marine annelid worms, commonly called bristle worms or polychaetes (). Each body segment has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia that bear many bristles, called chaetae, which are made of chitin. More than 10,000 species are described in this class. Common representatives include the lugworm (''Arenicola marina'') and the sandworm or clam worm ''Alitta''. Polychaetes as a class are robust and widespread, with species that live in the coldest ocean temperatures of the abyssal plain, to forms which tolerate the extremely high temperatures near hydrothermal vents. The World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) is a taxonomic database that aims to provide an authoritative and comprehensive list of names of marine organisms. Content The content of the registry is edited and maintained by scientific specialists on each group of organism. Paul Langerhans (25 July 1847 – 20 July 1888) was a German pathologist, physiologist and biologist, credited with the discovery of the cells that secrete insulin, named after him as the islets of Langerhans. Albert-Auguste Fauvel (7 November 1851, in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin – 3 November 1909, in Cherbourg) was a French naturalist, known for providing the first detailed description of the Chinese alligator. Adolph Eduard Grube (18 May 1812, Königsberg – 23 June 1880 , Breslau) was a German zoologist. Adolph Eduard Grube, an able worker in many animal groups, was mainly interested in Polychaetes. In 1837 he defended his thesis at the University of Königsberg (then in Prussia). From 1843-1856 he was Professor of Zoology in the Universität Dorpat (then in Livonia) then at the Universität Breslau (now the University of Wrocław). Jean Louis Armand de Quatrefages de Bréau (10 February 1810 – 12 January 1892) was a French biologist. Life He was born at Berthézène, in the commune of Valleraugue (Gard), the son of a Protestant farmer. Charles Joseph Gravier
Charles Joseph Gravier (4 March 1865, in Orléans – 15 November 1937, in Paris) was a French zoologist. He initially taught classes at (1883–85) in Orléans and at the , afterwards becoming a professor of natural history at the (1887) in Grenoble. In 1893 he obtained his aggregation of natural sciences and in 1896 his PhD in sciences. Later he became first assistant to Edmond Perrier (1844–1921) at the in Paris, where from 1903 he served as an assistant to Louis Joubin (1861–1935).
