Cecil Cooper
Cecil Celester Cooper (born December 20, 1949) is an American former professional baseball player, coach, manager and sports agent. He played in Major League Baseball as a first baseman from 1971 to 1987 for the Boston Red Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers. Cooper was a member of the Red Sox team that won the 1975 American League pennant but, rose to prominence as a member of the Brewers where he became a five-time American League All-Star player and a two-time American League RBI champion. During his playing career, the left-handed hitting Cooper accumulated a .298 batting average and won three Silver Slugger Awards as well as two Gold Glove Awards. He reached the World Series in 1975 with the Red Sox and 1982 with the Brewers however, neither team was victorious. In 1983, Cooper was named the recipient of the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award. A first baseman, abbreviated 1B, is the player on a baseball or softball team who fields the area nearest first base, the first of four bases a baserunner must touch in succession to score a run. Silver Slugger Award
The Silver Slugger Award has been awarded annually since 1980 to the best offensive player at each position in both the American League and the National League, as determined by the coaches and managers of Major League Baseball. These voters consider several offensive statistics, including batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage, as well as their "general impressions of a player's overall offensive value". They are not permitted to vote for players on their team. The award is a bat-shaped trophy, 3 feet (91 cm) tall, engraved with the names of each of the winners from the league and plated with sterling silver. The 1982 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1982 season. The 79th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff played between the National League (NL) champion St. Louis Cardinals and the American League (AL) champion Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee Brewers Wall Of Honor
The Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor is an exhibit located at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that commemorates baseball players, coaches, executives, and broadcasters who have made significant contributions to the Milwaukee Brewers Major League Baseball team and meet set criteria regarding career milestones or service time. The team was established in Seattle, Washington, as the Seattle Pilots in 1969, and they became the Milwaukee Brewers after relocating to Wisconsin in 1970.
