Caroline Plate
The Caroline Plate is a minor tectonic plate that straddles the Equator in the eastern hemisphere located north of New Guinea. It forms a subduction zone along the border with the Bird's Head Plate and the Woodlark Plate to the south. A transform boundary forms the northern border with the Pacific Plate. Along the border with the Philippine Sea Plate is a convergent boundary that transitions into a rift. The Caroline Plate was first proposed as a distinct plate by . West Caroline Basin
The West Caroline Basin is an oceanic basin in the south-west Pacific Ocean north of New Guinea. Bathymetry and oceanography The West Caroline Basin is bordered by the islands and banks of Melanesia to the north and west, including the Caroline and Palau islands, and to the east the Eauripik Rise separates it from the East Caroline Basin. Caroline Islands
The Caroline Islands (or the Carolines) are a widely scattered archipelago of tiny islands in the western Pacific Ocean, to the north of New Guinea. Eauripik Rise
Eauripik Island is a coral atoll of three islands in the western Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Its total land area is only 23.6 hectares , but it encloses a deep lagoon of . With light southwest winds, there are usually breakers on both sides of the atoll. All of the islets are covered with coconut palms. There used to be five islets, but two were washed away in the late 1970s by typhoon waves. Eauripik is located approximately southwest of Woleai. The population of Eauripik Island was 113 in 2000. Many islanders usually reside on the Yap mainland as temporary laborers.
