Carol Burnett Show
''The Carol Burnett Show'' is an American variety/sketch comedy television show that originally ran on CBS from September 11, 1967, to March 29, 1978, for 279 episodes, and again with nine episodes in fall 1991. It starred Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence, and Lyle Waggoner. In 1975, frequent guest star Tim Conway became a regular after Waggoner left the series. In 1977, Dick Van Dyke replaced Korman but it was agreed that he was not a match and he left after 10 episodes. The series originated in CBS Television City's Studio 33, and won 25 primetime Emmy Awards. In 2013, ''TV Guide'' ranked ''The Carol Burnett Show'' number 17 on its list of the 60 Greatest Shows of All Time, and in 2007 it was included on the list of ''Time''s 100 Best TV Shows of All Time. Variety show, also known as variety arts or variety entertainment, is entertainment made up of a variety of acts including musical performances, sketch comedy, magic, acrobatics, juggling, and ventriloquism. It is normally introduced by a compère (master of ceremonies) or host. The variety format made its way from the Victorian era stage in Britain and America to radio and then television. Michael Dann
Michael Harold Dann (September 11, 1921 – May 27, 2016) was an American television executive. Dann was vice president of programming at CBS from 1963 to 1970, having worked there since leaving NBC in the late 1950s. He took a pragmatic approach to programming, opting not to enforce a personal vision for the network other than to try to get more viewers without regard to key demographics. To this effect, he commissioned a number of rural sitcoms for the network (a format he personally hated) and, in 1967, canceled all of the network's profitable, but low-rated, game shows. He believed in the notions of hammocking and tent-pole programming, in which a new or struggling sitcom could be made more successful by putting more successful shows before and after it. ''The Garry Moore Show'' is the name for several separate American variety series on the CBS television network in the 1950s and 1960s. Buddy Hackett (born Leonard Hacker; August 31, 1924 – June 30, 2003) was an American actor, comedian and singer. His best remembered roles include Marcellus Washburn in ''The Music Man'' (1962), Benjy Benjamin in ''It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World'' (1963), Tennessee Steinmetz in ''The Love Bug'' (1968), and the voice of Scuttle in ''The Little Mermaid'' (1989). It aired on NBC-TV from September 24, 1956 to March 11, 1957 during the 1956–1957 television season. "The Family" is a series of comedy sketches featured on ''The Carol Burnett Show'', with one and final installment airing on '' Carol Burnett & Company''. ''The Carol Burnett Show'' introduced the skit starting in the 1973-1974 season. Overall, it would air new installments of the skit for the last five seasons of its total 11-season run; the skit aired between the 1973-1974 season to the 1977-1978 season on the show. However, the final installment of "The Family" would not air until September 8, 1979 on an entirely different four-week summer series entitled ''Carol Burnett & Company''. This was the only installment of "The Family" that did not air on ''The Carol Burnett Show'', which had completed its run almost a year and a half earlier on March 29, 1978.
