Carlton Soccer Club is a defunct Australian association football (soccer) club. It participated in the National Soccer League from the 1997–98 season until round eight of the 2000–01 season, after which it folded. The club was strongly linked to the Australian rules football club Carlton, and suffered from poor crowds. It was suspected that these ties stopped crowds from growing as supporters of other Australian rules teams would not support the Carlton Soccer Club. On the field, Carlton had a successful debut season, coming runner up to South Melbourne. They were unable to make the finals the next year, but bounced back in season 1999–2000, being beaten in the Preliminary Final by eventual champion Wollongong. This would prove to be their last full season, as Carlton's financial woes forced the withdrawal of the side from the 2000–01 season after eight rounds. Princes Park (stadium)
Princes Park (or Carlton Recreation Ground, currently known by its sponsored name Ikon Park) is an Australian rules football ground located inside the wider Princes Park in the inner Melbourne suburb of Carlton North. It is a historic venue, having been the home ground of the Carlton Football Club since early in its history. Prior to a partial redevelopment the ground had a nominal capacity of 35,000, making it the third largest Australian rules football venue in Melbourne after the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Docklands Stadium. Princes Park hosted three grand finals during World War II, with a record attendance of 62,986 at the 1945 VFL Grand Final between Carlton and . John Markovski
John Markovski (born 15 April 1970) is an Australian soccer coach and former player, former head coach of Fitzroy City SC. Markovski played in the National Soccer League (NSL) for Sunshine George Cross, Preston Lions (former Preston Makedonia), Morwell Falcons, Canberra Cosmos, Auckland Kingz, Carlton SC, Melbourne Knights and Perth Glory FC and was known Australia-wide for his excellent free kick taking skills. Markovski soon retired from playing football after his daughter Zara Markovski was born. Markovski has three children named Zara, Joshua and Jonas. He now watches them proudly play the sport he once used to. National Soccer League (Australia) Teams
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. 1999–2000 National Soccer League
The 1999–2000 National Soccer League season, was the 24th season of the National Soccer League in Australia. Overview 1999–2000 was the first season since a 1995–96 rebrand to be officially known as the National Soccer League after Ericsson withdrew their sponsorship shortly before the season. The league was originally scheduled for 17 teams, however with the late withdrawal of the Southern Stars, (previously Adelaide Sharks and West Adelaide) Soccer Australia was forced to redraw fixtures less than a week out from the season. The rescheduled 34-week season saw each team play two teams four times, and the remaining teams two times. Wollongong Wolves won the championship. Andrew Packer (born 16 June 1980 in Ipswich, Queensland, Australia) is a former Australian footballer. Biography He attended St. Josephs Nudgee College in Brisbane. Robert Middleby (born 9 August 1975) is an Australian former football player who as a right-back or right midfielder. He was the CEO of the Newcastle Jets FC until 2015. He played for Sydney FC after earlier stints at Newcastle United Jets, Wollongong Wolves (twice), Carlton, Football Kingz and the Newcastle Breakers.
