Carlos Badion
Carlos Velasco Badion (August 16, 1935 – June 20, 2002) was a Filipino basketball player. Although born in Lubao, Pampanga, he grew up in Tondo, Manila where he started his checkered career playing in sandlot tournaments and for Abad Santos High School in Manila. At 5'11" tall, he was first spotted in an interscholastic tournament by Valerio Lopez of Mapua where he subsequently enrolled. He eventually shone in the NCAA and the MICAA, playing for such teams as the Jacinto Rubber Shoes, Crispa (where he became one of the pioneering members of that team) and YCO. Known as the "Bad Boy" of Philippine basketball because of his unforgiving and physical defense, Badion popularized the moves that came to be known as the "bicycle drive" and the "jackknife layup," moves which young players tried to imitate during the 1950s. Lubao
Lubao, officially the Municipality of Lubao ( pam, Balen ning Lubao; fil, Bayan ng Lubao), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pampanga, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 173,502 people. It is noted for rice, sugar cane, fish, and sampaguita. Manila Industrial Commercial Athletic Association
The Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA) was a sports association which existed in Manila, Philippines from 1938 to 1981. Throughout its existence, it staged various sports and was participated by prominent Philippine companies. After World War II, its basketball tournament became the country's premier basketball league until 1975, when nine of its members broke away to form the very first professional basketball league in Asia, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Afterwards, it would continue as a farm league of sorts for the PBA until the league closed down before the end of 1981. Loreto Carbonell
Loreto "Bonnie" Carbonell (1933 – 23 September 2017) was a Filipino basketball player who competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics. Career Playing career Sometime during his early years, Father Richard Cronin, a Jesuit priest from the Ateneo de Davao University taught Carbonell the behind the back dribble technique. This would help to become a star player of the San Beda College varsity team. In 1956, he scored 48 points in an NCAA single match surpassing the previous scoring record of Carlos Badion of Mapúa. Kurt Bachmann
Kurt Bachmann (July 18, 1936 – August 29, 2014) was a Filipino basketball player who competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics. Bachmann was born in Iloilo City. Aside from being a three-time member of the men's national team, Kurt played a big role and help the De La Salle University in capturing the NCAA senior's title in 1956. Asian Basketball Confederation Championship
The FIBA Asia Cup (formerly the FIBA Asia Championship and ABC Championship) is an international basketball tournament which takes place every four years between the men's national teams of Asia and Oceania. Through the 2015 edition, the tournament took place every two years and was also a qualifying tournament for the FIBA World Cup and the Olympic basketball tournament. Antonio Genato
Antonio "Tony" Genato (born June 9, 1929) is a retired Filipino basketball player who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics, the 1956 Summer Olympics and at the 1954 FIBA World Championship. Biography Genato had his high school education at the San Beda College. He did not play competitive basketball during his high school years due to a lack of competitions during the war years. Genato took his pre-med studies also in San Beda. He played three seasons for the San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA. After finishing his pre-med studies at San Beda, Genato took a course in Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas and joined the YCO in 1952. Genato joined the YCO Athletic Club in 1952. Carlos Loyzaga
Carlos "Caloy" Matute Loyzaga (August 29, 1930 – January 27, 2016) was a Filipino basketball player and coach. He was the most dominant basketball player of his era in the Philippines and is considered as the greatest Filipino basketball player of all time. Loyzaga was a two-time Olympian (1952, 1956), as a member of the Philippine national team. Early life Loyzaga was born in San Jose, Mindoro (now Occidental Mindoro) on August 29, 1930.
