Cadia Engine House
Cadia Engine House is a heritage-listed engine house at Cadia, Blayney Shire, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1865 to 1867. The property is owned by Newcrest Mining Limited, forming part of the company's Cadia-Ridgeway Mine lease. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. History In 1865 a "Cornish type" copper mine engine house was established on the south-eastern slopes of Mt Canobolis near Orange in New South Wales. The mine operated for a short time until it was abandoned as uneconomical in 1867. Subsequently, much of the equipment was removed and the structures fell into ruin. Some of the machinery was salvaged for scrap in the 1920s. In 1993 some stabilisation works were undertaken, including roofing over the engine house. Cadia, New South Wales
Cadia is a locality in the Cabonne Council of New South Wales, Australia. It was formerly a private township established 1860s by the Cadiangullong Consolidated Copper company. It is now part of the Cadia-Ridgeway Mine lease, operated by Newcrest. It had a population of zero as of the . History The Wiradjuri people are the traditional owners of the land around Cadia, the area now known as the Cadia Valley. In the 1860s, mines were opened on either side of Cadiangullong Creek, which flows through the valley into the Belubula River. Cadia developed on its eastern bank, near what became the main crossing of the creek, downstream of the confluence of Cadiangullong Creek with its tributary, Cadia Creek, formerly Rodd's Creek. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans.
