CRRC MA Co., Ltd. is a Chinese-American rolling stock manufacturer in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is part of the larger Chinese state-owned rolling stock manufacturer CRRC. Its offices and company headquarters are located in Quincy, MA. This Springfield facility is responsible for the manufacturing and delivery of metro and commuter rail cars for the MBTA, LA Metro, and SEPTA. History CRRC MA was first established as ''CNR MA'' in 2014. It won a state contract to manufacture new railcars for the MBTA Red and Orange lines within the state of Massachusetts. At the time, no railcar manufacturing facilities existed in the state of Massachusetts. The new 150,000 square ft assembly facility was built on the former site of a New England Westinghouse Company property and manufacturing started shortly after the facility's opening. Red Line (MBTA)
The Red Line is a rapid transit line operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) as part of the MBTA subway system. The line runs south and east underground from Alewife station in North Cambridge through Somerville and Cambridge, surfacing to cross the Longfellow Bridge then returning to tunnels under Downtown Boston. It continues underground through South Boston, splitting into two branches on the surface at JFK/UMass station. The Ashmont branch runs southwest through Dorchester to Ashmont station, where the connecting light rail Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line (shown as part of the Red Line on maps, but operated separately) continues to Mattapan station.
