CLG Naomh Bríd
CLG Naomh Bríd is a Gaelic football club in the south of County Donegal, Ireland. Several of the club's players have been involved with the Donegal county team. History So began the official history of Naomh Brid CLG or as it was known in those days Ballintra GAA. Gaelic games had been played in the parish since the early 1900s, but seemed to have been done so on an ad hoc basis, with interest developing and waning at various times. Many different venues were used for the playing of games during those years from Inishfad to Shannagh and from Carrick to Roscanlan. It appears that there was a good team in the area during the 30s who played in the Senior Championship in 1934 which was then played on a Divisional basis. Rivals Bundoran would win the County title that year in a game refereed by Mr.C.J.Boyle, a National School teacher in Ballintra. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. CLG Na Rossa
CLG Na Rossa is a Gaelic football only GAA club based in Leitir, County Donegal, Ireland. The club fields both men's and ladies' teams at underage to senior level. History Na Rossa have won the Donegal Junior A Football Championship once (1982) and the Donegal Intermediate Football Championship twice (1989 and 1999). Declan Bonner became player-manager with Na Rossa at the age of 23, his first managerial appointment. He did so having gone to the United States in 1988 and, having returned late, Donegal manager Tom Conaghan did not include him in the county panel for the following year. Bonner led Na Rossa to the 1989 Donegal Intermediate Football Championship, while also playing for them. Bonner's brothers Sean, Michael and Donal were also part of that Na Rossa team, while his brother Aidan — a minor — was a substitute. CLG Naomh Ultan
CLG Naomh Ultan is a Gaelic football club in the villages of Bruckless and Dunkineely in the south of County Donegal, Ireland. History The club's 2020 Intermediate Championship campaign was suspended at the relegation play-off stage (a meeting with Naomh Colmcille) due to COVID, causing the 2021 Junior B Championship draw to be postponed and the 2021 Intermediate and Junior A Football Championship draws to have both teams in them due to the uncertainty of that result. Naomh Ultan began playing in Junior competition in 1975, their first match being against Glenfin who happened to be just starting up too. This game was played at Fintragh as the club's own pitch was not prepared in time for the start of the competition. CLG Naomh Muire is a Gaelic football only GAA club based in Mullaghderg, County Donegal, Ireland, and serves the lower Rosses area. The club fields both men's and ladies' teams at underage to senior level. As of 2022, the club competes in the Donegal Intermediate Championship. History The club was formed in 1980. Tony Doherty (Antóin Ó Dochartaigh) of Rann na Feirste was a co-founder. Ó Dochartaigh also acted as field liner, kit man, referee, linesman and trainer at various stages and also served as secretary and treasurer of the club. He led the vote to acquire floodlights for the club's facilities. Naomh Muire have twice won the All-Ireland Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta, in 2007 and 2011. The club won the 2013 Donegal Intermediate Football Championship, defeating St Naul's in the final. Matt Gallagher (Gaelic Footballer)
Matt Gallagher (born 1960s) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Aodh Ruadh and, later, Naomh Bríd, as well as the Donegal county team. For many years he was Donegal's most capped player until Brian Roper broke his record. In April 1980, his secondary school De La Salle College Ballyshannon, defeated Leinster champions St Mary's CBS, Portlaoise, by 2–10 to 1–6 to win the All-Ireland Colleges B title at Croke Park, with Gallagher playing in the final. Gallagher won the 1982 All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship with Donegal, with his brother Pauric also on the team. Pauric was kilt in a car crash in the U.S. in 1989. Matt Gallagher played for Donegal from 1981 until 1995. He came down with appendicitis in 1983, causing him to miss Donegal's victory over Cavan in the Ulster final and the All-Ireland semi-final. David Walsh (Donegal Gaelic Footballer)
David Walsh is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who plays for Naomh Bríd and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team. A member of the Donegal panel that won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final against Mayo, he came on as a substitute in the second half of the game in place of Ryan Bradley. He injured his shoulder in a club championship match in October 2012 but returned to training ahead of the 2013 Ulster Championship. In January 2017, Walsh retired from the inter-county game. The ''Donegal News'' (also known as ''Derry People/Donegal News'' and formerly ''Derry People'') is a twice-weekly local newspaper in the northwest of the island of Ireland, first published in 1902. Niall McCready is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Aodh Ruadh and the Donegal county team. He won an Ulster Under-21 Football Championship medal with Donegal in 1995. He started the first game of Brian McEniff's last spell as Donegal manager, a league defeat to Galway in Tuam in February 2003.
