CKLC-FM (98.9 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It broadcasts a country format and is branded on-air as ''Pure Country 99''. It is owned and operated by Bell Media which also owns sister station CFLY-FM. The radio studios and offices are on Princess Street in Kingston. The transmitter is on Dawson Point Road on Wolfe Island. History CKLC, along with its sister station CKLC-FM, began operations in 1953 at 1380 on the AM dial as an affiliate of the CBC's Dominion Network and remained with the network until it dissolved in 1962. The call letters are taken from Kingston's nickname, the "Limestone City". Some of its earliest alumni include newscaster Allan Saunders (Sandzelius), Al Boliska as morning man, and disk jockeys Buddy Guilfoyle and Ron Bertrand. CFLY-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 98.3 FM in Kingston, Ontario. The station currently broadcasts an adult contemporary format branded as ''Move 98.3''. The station broadcasts with 95,500 watts of power from its transmitter located in Harrowsmith. The station is owned by Bell Media. History The station was launched in January 1954 as CKLC-FM, by St. Lawrence Broadcasting. AM sister station CKLC-AM was launched at the same time. Dominion Network
The Dominion Network was the second English-language radio network of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation from January 1, 1944 to 1962. It consisted of the CBC-owned CJBC radio station in Toronto and a series of 34 privately owned affiliates from coast-to-coast. The Dominion Network was set up as a complementary network to the CBC's main English service which became known as the Trans-Canada Network. While the Trans-Canada Network focus was on public affairs, educational and cultural programs, the Dominion Network's broadcast schedule consisted of lighter programming fare than that of the Trans-Canada Network and carried more American programming. The Team (corporately styled as The TEAM) was a Canadian sports radio network, which broadcast from 2001 to 2002. It was owned and operated by CHUM Limited, based on the existing format of their Ottawa station The Team 1200, and incorporated virtually all of the company's AM radio stations across Canada. It was dissolved as a national network in 2002 amid poor ratings, although a few of its former stations retained the sports format and Team branding as standalone entities. History The network was launched on May 7, 2001, but struggled to build an audience in many cities. CHUM Limited was a Canadian media company based in Toronto, Ontario in operation from 1945 to 2007. The company was founded in 1945 as York Broadcasters Limited when it launched CHUM-AM 1050 but was acquired by salesman Allan Waters in 1954. CHUM had expanded to and owned 33 radio stations across Canada under its CHUM Radio Network division (now Bell Media Radio) and also owned other radio stations. Kingston, Ontario
Kingston is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is located on the north-eastern end of Lake Ontario, at the beginning of the St. Lawrence River and at the mouth of the Cataraqui River (south end of the Rideau Canal).
