CKJS
CKJS is a multilingual radio station which operates at 92.7 FM. The station broadcasts from Polo Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba with sister stations CFJL-FM and CHWE-FM, while its transmitter is located at Duff Roblin Provincial Park just south of Winnipeg. The station is the only multilingual radio station in Manitoba serving more than twenty different ethnic groups. History The station was founded in 1974 by Casimir Stanczykowski; CKJS was the second station to be established by Stanczykowski, behind Montreal's multicultural station CFMB. In the '80's it also boasted, for a very short time, a cutting edge alternative music program (well before such programs existed on AM radio in particular) called ''Nightbeat''. CFJL-FM (100.5 FM, ''Hot 100.5'') is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owned by Evanov Communications, it broadcasts a classic hits format focusing on pop, rhythmic, and rock music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. CHWE-FM (106.1 FM, ''Energy 106'') is a radio station in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Owned by Evanov Communications, it broadcasts a CHR/Top 40 format. CHWE-FM's studios and offices are located behind Polo Park at 202-1440 Jack Blick Avenue in Winnipeg, with sister stations CKJS-FM and CFJL-FM. It broadcasts with a power of 50,000 watts full-time as a class B station, using a directional antenna with different patterns day and night (the nighttime pattern being significantly tighter). HD Radio (HDR) is a trademark for an in-band on-channel (IBOC) digital radio broadcast technology. It generally simulcasts an existing analog radio station in digital format with less noise and with additional text information. HD Radio is used primarily by AM and FM radio stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with a few implementations outside North America. The term "on channel" is a misnomer because the system actually broadcasts on the ordinarily unused channels adjacent to an existing radio station's allocation. This leaves the original analog signal intact, allowing enabled receivers to switch between digital and analog as required. In most FM implementations, from 96 to 128 kbps of capacity is available.
