Shreveport Mudbugs
The Shreveport Mudbugs are a Junior ice hockey#Tier II, Tier II junior ice hockey team based in Shreveport, Louisiana, as a member of the North American Hockey League. The new Mudbugs replaced a former professional team that played in the area from 1997 to 2011 known as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. History From 1997 to 2000, Shreveport, Louisiana was home to a professional hockey team in the Western Professional Hockey League (WPHL) named the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Shreveport Mudbugs. In 2000, the Mudbugs relocated to nearby Bossier City, Louisiana, Bossier City to play out of CenturyTel Center and changed their name to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The Mudbugs then joined the Central Hockey League in 2001 when the WPHL merged with the CHL. The professional Mudbugs would eventually fold in 2011 citing low attendance and financial issues even though the team had just won the league championship. The Western Professional Hockey League (abbreviated WPHL) was a minor professional ice hockey league. The WPHL operated from 1996 to 2001 with teams based in the southern United States, primarily Texas and Louisiana. The league started with six teams in the 1996–97 season and grew to 18 teams in 1999–00. After the 2000–01 season, the WPHL merged with the Central Hockey League. The 2021–22 NAHL season was the 38th season of the North American Hockey League. The regular season ran from September 2021 to April 2022 with a 60-game schedule for each team. The Lone Star Brahmas won the regular season championship. The New Jersey Titans defeated the Anchorage Wolverines 3–0 in the Championship game to capture the Robertson Cup. Aberdeen Wings
The Aberdeen Wings are a Tier II junior ice hockey team based out of Aberdeen, South Dakota, that began play for 2010–11. A member of the North American Hockey League in the Central Division, the Wings play their home games in the Odde Ice Center. History Since the team's inaugural season in 2010–11, the Wings have held the highest attendance numbers in their NAHL division, boasting crowds over 1,700. In their first four seasons, the Aberdeen Wings have made the NAHL playoffs twice. The goal of any junior hockey team is to help develop players for the next level. The Maine Nordiques are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's East Division. The Nordiques play their home games at Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, Maine. 2020–21 NAHL Season
The 2020–21 NAHL season was the 37th season of the North American Hockey League. The regular season ran from October 2020 to May 2021 with an unbalanced schedule for the league. The Aberdeen Wings won the regular season championship and progressed all the way to the championship game where they were defeated 2–4 by the Shreveport Mudbugs who captured the Robertson Cup. COVID-19 Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the NAHL and its member teams were forced to adjust their plans several times during the season. A few of the existing teams chose to suspend play for the year while some expansion franchises elected to delay their start until the following season. 2019–20 NAHL Season
The 2019–20 NAHL season was the 36th season of the North American Hockey League. The regular season was scheduled to run from September 2019 to April 2020 with a 60-game schedule for all teams. The Lone Star Brahmas won the regular season championship due to having the most points when the season was suspended. COVID-19 On March 12, 2020, the NAHL announced that it was suspending play across the entire league pending future developments. Less than a week later, the league cancelled the remainder of the schedule as well as the playoffs. Amarillo Bulls
The Amarillo Bulls were a Tier II junior ice hockey team based in Amarillo, Texas. They were a member of the North American Hockey League's South Division and played home games in the Amarillo Civic Center. History The franchise joined the NAHL as the Albert Lea Thunder, located in Albert Lea, Minnesota, in 2008. During the second season, issues with ownership forced the league to step in to keep the team playing. On May 11, 2010, it was reported that the team had found new owners and would relocate to Texas for the 2010–11 season. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights are a junior ice hockey organization from Pittston, Pennsylvania. In 2015, the Knights' junior hockey organization purchased the dormant Dawson Creek Rage franchise in the Tier II North American Hockey League (NAHL) and placed their Tier III franchise in the Eastern Hockey League into dormancy.
