Union Councils of Karachi are local governments in Karachi. Union Council is the primary governmental institution in Pakistan. Headed by a Union Nazim, each union council has 10 elected members or councilors. In addition to four male and two female members elected directly, there are two male and two female representatives of the labor, a minority member, a Union Nazim and his deputy known as Union Naib Nazim. Beside elected members, there are several government employees and functionaries in every union council, who report to the Secretary of the Union Council. Karachi East District
Gulshan District (formerly Karachi East) () is an administrative district of Karachi Division created in 1972. As of 2023 Pakistani census population of Gulshan District is 3.913,656. In 2023, the Government of Sindh renamed Karachi East District to Gulshan District to align with its town name. History The district was established in 1972. Shah Faisal Town
Shah Faisal Town (), lies in the eastern part of the city that took its name from Shah Faisal Colony. History Shah Faisal Town was formed in 2001 as part of The Local Government Ordinance 2001, and was subdivided into 11 union councils and Shah Faisal Town was re-organized as part of Karachi East District, before being amalgamated into the new Korangi District. The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous "third tier of government" (administrative divisions) and replaced it with the fourth tier (districts). The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division in 2001, and the merging of its five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with 26 autonomous constituent towns including Shah Faisal Town. Korangi Town () is an administrative subdivision or town within Karachi, Pakistan. It lies in the eastern part of the city that was named after the locality of Korangi. Korangi Town was re-organized as part of Karachi East District, before Korangi District was formed. Korangi District
Korangi District () is one of the seven administrative districts of Karachi Division, created in 2013 after the area's split from Karachi East District. Located in eastern Karachi in the province of Sindh, Pakistan, its population is 3,127,976, according to the 2023 census. History The district was a part of District East in Karachi, which was divided in November 2013. The district is diverse include Baloch, Pashtun, Sindhi, Punjabi and other ethnicities. SITE Town
SITE Town (), located in the southern part of Karachi, Pakistan, is named after the Sindh Industrial & Trading Estate. It was established in 2001 under the Local Government Ordinance and subdivided into nine union councils. In 2011, the town system was abolished, and SITE Town became part of Karachi West District. However, following Karachi's reorganisation into 26 towns in 2022, SITE became part of Kemari District, after Kemari District was carved out of Karachi West District in 2020. Keamari District, () is an administrative district of Karachi Division in Sindh, Pakistan created on August 21, 2020 after it was carved out of District West Karachi. Baldia Town, SITE Town, Mauripur Town & Keamari Town ended up being part of the newly created Keamari District. Orangi Town
Orangi Town () is a residential town of Orangi District located in the northwestern part of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It was named after the sprawling municipality of Orangi. Town system was formed in August 2001 by dissolving Karachi District West as part of the Local Government Ordinance 2001, and was subdivided into 13 union councils. Lyari Town (, ) is named after the historic locality of Lyari. Lyari Town was the smallest borough (called "town" in Karachi) by area, but also the most densely populated. Saddar Town
Saddar Town (صدر ٹاؤن) lies in the Karachi District (South), Karachi District South that forms much of the historic colonial core of Karachi, in the Sindh province of Pakistan.
