Cyclomedia is a Dutch company specialising in the large-scale and systematic visualisation of environments based on 360° panoramic photographs (Cycloramas). Using specialised technology, large public areas are photographed and stored in an online database. Overlapping panoramic images are captured at 5-meter intervals from public roads at street level, with the camera system mounted on a moving car. This service is not available to the general public. Applications The high resolution spherical panoramas are located to an accuracy within 10 cm, allowing the user to perform photogrammetric 3D measurements and use the imagery for 3D modelling and texture mapping. Digital Recording
In digital recording, an audio or video signal is converted into a stream of discrete numbers representing the changes over time in air pressure for audio, or chroma and luminance values for video. This number stream is saved to a storage device. To play back a digital recording, the numbers are retrieved and converted back into their original analog audio or video forms so that they can be heard or seen. In a properly matched analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog converter (DAC) pair the analog signal is accurately reconstructed per the constraints of the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem dependent on the sampling rate and quantization error dependent on the audio or video bit depth. EveryScape is an online mapping service based in Waltham, Massachusetts that allows users to view panoramic images from various locations and is a competitor of Google's Street View service. Location View was an interactive website developed by Tokyo-based company LocationView Co. offering registered users a street-level view of selected cities in Japan. It featured 360-degree horizontal and 180-degree vertical panning, zoom, and virtual mobility in which the user could control speed. Unlike other street view services, such as MapJack or Google Maps’ Streetview, Location View had a high frame rate and seamless transition between frames, enabling continuous, lifelike motion and surroundings which were animated rather than static. MapJack is a map feature introduced in 2007 that is similar to Google Street View, but has less coverage than Google Street View. Its current headquarters is in Hong Kong, and is in the beta stages. The site currently provides these types of views of various locations in the United States, Thailand, Sweden and Canada. It was only the second to provide such views of an area outside the United States when Chiang Mai was introduced.
