Cursive (band)
Cursive is an American indie rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. Stylistically described as emo and post-hardcore, Cursive came to prominence with 2000's ''Domestica'' and found commercial and critical success with 2003's ''The Ugly Organ''. The band has released eight Album, studio albums, a Compilation album, compilations album, and a mix of Single (music), singles and Extended play, EPs since 1997. They have released recordings on several labels, including 15 Passenger Records, Saddle Creek Records, and Big Scary Monsters (United Kingdom, UK). Cursive's influences include such bands as Fugazi, Shudder to Think, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf and Brainiac (band), Brainiac. Siren Music Festival
The Siren Music Festival (a.k.a. Sirenfest) was an annual summertime outdoors concert held in Brooklyn's Coney Island from 2001-2010. It was run by the free arts/politics/current-events newspaper ''The Village Voice'', and was completely free-of-charge. The event drew fans of the indie and experimental rock that comprised the bulk of Sirenfest's performers, as the concert itself was held in high esteem for its high-quality sound and performances and for being free of charge. Self-titled the "premier outdoor indie rock festival," the 2005 event drew upwards of 100,000 fans. The layout usually involved the Main Stage and the Stillwell Stage, placed two blocks apart, upon which performances could go on simultaneously. Performance times were often staggered to allow the audience to move from one set to the next. Clint Schnase is a musician from Omaha, Nebraska. He played drums in the indie-rock band Cursive from 1995 until late 2006. Fugazi
Fugazi (; ) is an American post-hardcore band formed in Washington, D.C., in 1986. The band consists of guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally, and drummer Brendan Canty. They were noted for their style-transcending music, DIY ethical stance, manner of business practice, and contempt for the music industry. Fugazi performed numerous worldwide tours and produced six studio albums, a film, and a comprehensive live series, gaining the band critical acclaim and success around the world. ''The Ugly Organ'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Cursive, released on March4, 2003, through Saddle Creek Records. It was released both on black and translucent green 180 gram vinyl. Background and production Following a brief break-up, Cursive returned with the release of their third studio album '' Domestica'' in June 2000. It saw the introduction of new guitarist Ted Stevens, previously of Lullaby for the Working Class; he had replaced Stephen Pederson, who went to university. After this, frontman Tim Kasher formed the Good Life, who released their debut album '' Novena on a Nocturn'' in late 2000. In July 2001, Cursive released the '' Burst and Bloom'' EP, which featured the addition of cellist Gretta Cohn. The release was used to showcase a new sound for the band, which they expected to expand upon on their next album. In March and April 2002, Cursive toured across Europe with the Appleseed Cast. ''Domestica'' (also styled as ''Cursive's Domestica'') is the third studio album by the American indie rock band Cursive, released on June 20, 2000. This album was the 31st release by Saddle Creek Records, released on CD as well as both red and black vinyl. About ''Domestica'' is a concept album that tells the story of a relationship between two characters named "Sweetie" and "Pretty Baby." Both characters are mentioned by name in several of the songs on the album ("The Casualty," "The Martyr," "A Red So Deep," and "The Radiator Hums") as well as the title of "The Lament of Pretty Baby." Lead singer and principal songwriter Tim Kasher went through a divorce prior to writing the songs. Though Kasher maintains that the characters' relationship differs in many key ways from his marriage, he has also stated that some of the story's events were based in reality.
