Cum Laude Society
The Cum Laude Society is an international organization that honors academic achievement at secondary institutions, similar to the Phi Beta Kappa, which honors academic achievements at the university level. History The Cum Laude Society was founded in 1906 at the Tome School in Port Deposit, Maryland as the Alpha Delta Tau fraternity.The Tome School Its founder was Dr. A. W. Harris, then director of the Tome School. It was established to encourage and recognize scholastic achievement of secondary school students. Harris also wanted to encourage community and alumni support for secondary schools. Alpha Delta Tau was created to be similar to the collegiate society, Phi Beta Kappa. Tome School
The Tome School is a private school in North East, Maryland, North East in Cecil County, Maryland, Cecil County in the U.S. state of Maryland. Founded in 1894 by Jacob Tome, it is one of the oldest schools in Maryland. It enrolls grades K–12. As of September 2024, the Head of School is Jim Orndorff. The school was founded as the Tome School for Boys in nearby Port Deposit, Maryland, Port Deposit. That campus, now owned by the Bainbridge Development Corporation, is no longer in operation and is closed to the public. Peter Moore (chemist)
Peter B. Moore (born October 15, 1939) is Sterling Professor emeritus of Chemistry, Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. He has dedicated his entire career to understanding the structure, function, and mechanism of the ribosome. Moore was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1939 to Laura Bartlett Moore and Francis Daniels Moore. He received his B.S. degree in biophysics from Yale University in 1961, and his Ph.D. in biophysics from Harvard University in 1966, where he worked in the laboratory of James D. Watson. Prior to attending Yale, Moore graduated from Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, where he was elected to the Cum Laude Society.
