Cult Records
Cult Records is an independent record label founded by Julian Casablancas (of The Strokes) in 2009. Initially used as an imprint for Casablancas' solo releases, Cult later became a standalone label, and in June 2014 entered a label services agreement with Kobalt as well as a digital distribution agreement with ONErpm. The label's first release (with RCA) was Casablancas' debut solo album Phrazes for the Young. ''Cult Records'' have since put out records for a number of major artists, mostly from the New York area including Casablancas' own bands The Strokes and The Voidz, as well acts like The Growlers, Karen O, Albert Hammond Jnr and The Virgins. Casablancas lamented the label missing out on Phoenix's breakout album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and said they were close to signing Haim. Julian Casablancas
Julian Fernando Casablancas (born August 23, 1978) is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the Rock music, rock band the Strokes, with whom he has released six studio albums since their founding in 1998. Casablancas released a solo studio album, ''Phrazes for the Young'', in 2009, and has released three albums with the experimental rock band the Voidz. A native New York City, New Yorker, he was born to businessman John Casablancas. His mother, Jeanette Christiansen, married a man who introduced him to the music of the band the Doors, introducing him to rock music. Songhoy Blues
Songhoy Blues is a desert blues music group from Timbuktu, Mali. The band was formed in Bamako after being forced to leave their homes during the civil conflict and the imposition of Sharia law. The band released its debut album, ''Music in Exile'', via Transgressive Records on February 23, 2015, while Julian Casablancas' Cult Records partnered with Atlantic Records to release the album in North America in March 2015. The group is one of the principal subjects of the documentary film ''They Will Have To Kill Us First''. Rey Pila is a Mexican rock band formed in Mexico City in 2010. The band consists of Diego Solórzano, Andrés Velasco, Rodrigo Blanco and Miguel Hernández, though it started as Solórzano's solo project. The name "Rey Pila" is Spanish for "King Battery", a phrase Diego saw in a painting by the late graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Cribs
The Cribs are a British indie rock band originally from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, that formed in 2001. The band consists of twins Gary Jarman, Gary and Ryan Jarman and their younger brother Ross Jarman. Ryan James Jarman is a British musician who is the guitarist and one of the vocalists of the indie rock band The Cribs. The Cribs Jarman formed The Cribs in 2001 with his twin brother, Gary, and younger brother, Ross.
