Crunchyroll is an American subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming service owned by Sony Group Corporation. The service primarily distributes films and television series produced by East Asian media, including Japanese anime, and is headquartered in San Francisco, California, with a Japanese branch located in Shibuya, Tokyo. Launched in mid-2006 by a group of University of California, Berkeley, graduates, the service has over 120million registered users worldwide. A fansub (short for fan-subtitled) is a version of a foreign film or foreign television program, typically anime or dorama which has been translated by fans (as opposed to an officially licensed translation done by paid professionals) and subtitled into a language usually other than that of the original. Process The practice of making fansubs is called fansubbing and is done by a fansubber. Fansubbers typically form groups to divide the work.
