Crossroads Foundation
Crossroads Foundation is a non-profit charity based in Hong Kong which connects those with resources and those who need help. They do this through collecting quality excess and second-hand goods within Hong Kong, refurbishing them if necessary, and then distributing them to those in need within Hong Kong and internationally. Crossroads also runs interactive and immersive simulations to give participants an experience of needs like urban poverty, refugees, HIV/Aids and blindness, through their Global X-perience programmes. Crossroads supports fair trade and social enterprise with a Global Handicrafts marketplace selling fairly traded goods from around the world and their Silk Road Cafe, serving fair trade coffee and other beverages and snacks. Tuen Mun
Tuen Mun or Castle Peak is an area near the mouth of Tuen Mun River and Castle Peak Bay in the New Territories, Hong Kong. It was one of the earliest settlements in what is now Hong Kong and can be dated to the Neolithic period. In the more recent past, it was home to many Tanka fishermen who gathered at Castle Peak Bay. Tuen Mun is now a modern, mainly residential area in the north-west New Territories. As of 2011, 487,546 live in Tuen Mun and over 95% of them are Chinese. Perowne Barracks
Perowne Barracks is a former British Army barracks in Hong Kong. The barracks are no longer in military use. History The barracks, which were established as Tai Lam Military Camp in 1931, were subsequently renamed Perowne Barracks after Major General Lancelot Perowne, Major General of the Brigade of Gurkhas, who were based there. The barracks closed in 1994 as part of the withdrawal of British military presence prior to the handover of sovereignty in 1997. They were then used in the 1990s as living accommodation for Lingnan College, as a training school for the Immigration Department and more recently by the Crossroads Foundation, a charity. The barracks were used until 2008 as the final checkpoint and finish line for the annual Trailwalker event along the MacLehose Trail. In 2009, the Trailwalker route changed to end in Tai Tong, Yuen Long, however this proved to be only a temporary move. Brigade Of Gurkhas
The Brigade of Gurkhas is the collective name which refers to all the units in the British Army that are composed of Nepalese Gurkha soldiers. The brigade draws its heritage from Gurkha units that originally served in the British Indian Army prior to Indian independence, and prior to that served for the East India Company. The brigade includes infantry, engineering, signal, logistic and training and support units. They are known for their khukuri, a distinctive heavy knife with a curved blade, and have a reputation for being fierce and brave soldiers. Town Planning Board
The Town Planning Board () is a statutory body of the Hong Kong Government tasked with developing urban plans with an aim to ensuring the "health, safety, convenience and general welfare of the community through the process of guiding and controlling the development and use of land, and to bring about a better organised, efficient and desirable place to live and work."
