Cross-Canada Hit Parade
''Cross-Canada Hit Parade'' is a Canadian music television series which aired on CBC Television from 1955 to 1960. Episodes featured performances of current popular songs in a concept derived from the American series '' Your Hit Parade''. Premise The series featured the week's most popular songs in the traditional pop and contemporary genres. Guests performers and disc jockeys appeared in the series. Austin Willis hosted the series with regular performers Joyce Hahn, Wally Koster, Phyllis Marshall, and singing group the MCs. Adam Timoon joined the series for the 1956-57 season. The series house orchestra was led by Bert Niosi. Choreography was directed by Alan and Blanche Lund. Production The series was based on staged performances of the current most popular songs for which the series team spent considerable effort in developing the sets, choreographing the song presentations and planning camera positions. John Aylesworth
John Bansley Aylesworth (August 18, 1928 – July 28, 2010) was a Canadian television writer, producer, comedian, and actor, best known as co-creator of the American country music television variety show ''Hee Haw'', which appeared on network television for two years and then ran for decades in first-run syndication. Early career at CBC The son of Fredrick and Marie Aylesworth, John Bansley Aylesworth was born on August 18, 1928, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and performed on radio as a child. He left high school before graduating and went into the advertising business, joining MacLaren Advertising as a writer, where he worked together with Frank Peppiatt. Cab Calloway
Cabell Calloway III (December 25, 1907 – November 18, 1994) was an American singer, songwriter, bandleader, conductor and dancer. He was associated with the Cotton Club in Harlem, where he was a regular performer and became a popular vocalist of the swing era. His niche of mixing jazz and vaudeville won him acclaim during a career that spanned over 65 years. Calloway was a master of energetic scat singing and led one of the most popular dance bands in the United States from the early 1930s to the late 1940s. His band included trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie, Jonah Jones, and Adolphus "Doc" Cheatham, saxophonists Ben Webster and Leon "Chu" Berry, guitarist Danny Barker, bassist Milt Hinton, and drummer Cozy Cole. Hermione Ferdinanda Gingold (; 9 December 189724 May 1987) was an English actress known for her sharp-tongued, eccentric character. ''Music '60'' is a Canadian music variety television series which aired on CBC Television from 1959 to 1960. Premise ''Music '60'' was a brand name for two series which appeared on alternate weeks in its Monday night time slot. ''Music 60 Presents the Hit Parade'' replaced the '' Cross Canada Hit Parade'' series. Wally Koster and Joyce Hahn continued as hosts of these episodes and were supported by regulars Bert Niosi and his orchestra, Maggie St. Clair's Hit Parade Dancers, and 20-person vocal group the Gino Silvi Singers.
