Rideau Lakes is a township (Canada), township located within the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville in Eastern Ontario, Canada. Rideau Lakes lies in the northwest corner of Leeds and Grenville, and is geographically the largest municipality in the county. The township administrative offices are located in the hamlet of Chantry. The township was incorporated on 1 January 1998 by amalgamating the former Townships of North Crosby, South Crosby, Bastard and South Burgess, and South Elmsley, as well as the Village of Newboro, Ontario, Newboro. Farming, tourism, and service industries form the backbone of the local economy. ''The Railway Series'' is a series of British books about a railway known as the North Western Railway, located on the fictional Sodor (fictional island), Island of Sodor. There are 42 books in the series, the first published in May 1945 by Wilbert Awdry. Awdry wrote 26 books; the final one being written in October 1972. His son, Christopher Awdry, Christopher, wrote 16 more between September 1983 and July 2011. The series features many anthropomorphic vehicles. Crosby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 5,133. The county seat is Crosbyton. The county was founded in 1876 and later organized in 1886. Both the county and its seat are named for Stephen Crosby, a land commissioner in Texas. Crosby County, along with Lubbock and Lynn Counties, is part of the Lubbock metropolitan statistical area (MSA). The Lubbock MSA and Levelland micropolitan statistical area encompassing only Hockley County, form the larger Lubbock–Levelland combined statistical area. Until the passage of a referendum to permit liquor sales, held on May 11, 2013, Crosby County had been one of 19 remaining prohibition or entirely dry counties within Texas. Crosby is a census-designated place in Harris County, Texas, United States. Its population was 3,417 at the 2020 census. History The site north of U.S. Route 90 (according to some) was an encampment nicknamed Lick Skillet in 1823 by Humphrey Jackson, one of the 300 original Anglo colonists to settle Texas. The name "Lick Skillet" came from the phrase, "The East Texas oxen team drivers sipped the spring sweet water and licked their skillets clean." Humphrey Jackson (1784–1833) moved to Texas from Louisiana in September 1823, and built a log cabin outside Austin's colony on the San Jacinto River, west of the site of present-day Crosby.
