Mo Chua Of Balla
Mo Chua or Crónán mac Bécáin, also called Claunus, Cuan, Mochua, Moncan and Moncain (died 30 March 637) was a legendary Irish saint who founded the monastery in Balla. Life Mo Chua was the youngest of the three sons of Becan (supposedly descended from Lugaid mac Con) and Cumne (daughter of Conamail of the Dál mBuinne). His hair fell out in patches, and he worked as a shepherd. Comgall of Bangor happening to visit Becan's house, and finding Mo Chua neglected by the family, took him with him to Bangor Abbey to educate him.Grattan-Flood, William. "Cronan." Crónán Of Roscrea
Saint Crónán (died 640) was the abbot-bishop and patron of the diocese of Roscrea (a see later incorporated into the diocese of Killaloe), Ireland. He should not be confused with his contemporary Saint Crónán Mochua (died 637). Life Crónán was born in the territory of Éile in Ireland. His father’s name was Odhran, while his mother came from west Clare. After spending his youth in Connacht, he returned to his native district around the year 610 and founded Roscrea Abbey, where he established a school. Previously he settled at a place known as Sean Ros or Loch Cré, which was a wooded morass far from the haunts of men. In fact, it was so wild that pilgrims would often get lost. As a result, St. Crónán abandoned it and moved to the woods of Cré, now known as Ros Cré, County Tipperary. Saint Cronan's Boys' National School () is a National school (Ireland), national school located in Vevay Crescent, just off the Vevay Road in Bray, County Wicklow, Bray, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is the oldest primary school in Bray, having been founded in 1820 as Bray Male School. The school is named in honour of Crónán of Roscrea, Saint Cronan, whose feast day falls on 28 April. As of 2022, there are approximately 420 boys in the school, aged from 6 to 13 years (first through sixth classes). History In 1820, a small number of cottages on Seapoint Road in Bray are believed to have been the site of the first Bray Male Parochial School. It opened on 20 July 1820 and the boys stayed in these premises until 1880.
