Cro-Mags Members
The Cro-Mags are an American hardcore punk band from New York City. The band, which has garnered a strong cult following, has released six studio albums, with the first two considered the most influential. With a Hare Krishna background, they were among the first bands to fuse hardcore punk with thrash metal. Harley Flanagan, who co-founded the Cro-Mags, reached a settlement in April 2019 with former singer John Joseph and former drummer Mackie Jayson. Under the terms of the agreement, Flanagan retained exclusive rights to the Cro-Mags name, while Joseph and Jayson would continue performing under the name Cro-Mags"JM". Rocky George
Leonard F. George (born January 9, 1965), best known by his stage name Rocky George, is an American guitarist who has been a member of several notable musical acts, including Suicidal Tendencies, where he was their lead guitarist from 1984 to their first breakup in 1995, and was the first African-American member of the band. After Suicidal Tendencies, George played with 40 Cycle Hum and Cro-Mags, and in 2003, he joined Fishbone. George was also a member of a local punk rock band called Pap Smear with Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo. In 2019, George returned to the Cro-Mags lineup. Biography During his tenure with Suicidal Tendencies, George joined a short-lived punk side project called "Pap Smear", formed by Slayer members Jeff Hanneman and Dave Lombardo. Revenge (Cro-Mags Album)
''Revenge'' is the fifth studio album by New York hardcore band Cro-Mags. It was released in 2000 on their own label Cro-Mag Recordings and was the band's first studio album in seven years, as well as their first release with guitarist Rocky George (formerly of Suicidal Tendencies) and its first without vocalist John Joseph since 1989's '' Best Wishes''. As he did on ''Best Wishes'', bassist Harley Flanagan handled the vocals on this album. Alpha Omega (Cro-Mags Album)
''Alpha Omega'' (also referred to as ''Alpha-Omega'' or ''Alpha III Omega'') is the third album by the New York hardcore band Cro-Mags. It was released in 1992 on Century Media Records. In 2013, German record label Demons Run Amok Entertainment re-issued it on vinyl. It is the band's second album to feature vocalist John Joseph, who had been expelled from the band prior to the recording of their previous album '' Best Wishes'' (1989) and then rejoined in 1991. According to founding guitarist Parris Mayhew, he wrote most of ''Alpha Omega'' with former guitarist Rob Buckley. However, neither Mayhew or Buckley played on the actual recording, and the claim has been disputed by Flanagan and others. Best Wishes (Cro-Mags Album)
''Best Wishes'' is the second album by the New York hardcore band Cro-Mags. It was released on April 26, 1989 via Profile Records and was subsequently re-released via Another Planet – along with the band's debut album, '' The Age of Quarrel'', on the same disc. The album's cover reflected the band's interest in the Hare Krishna religion which started with previous singer John Joseph and then carried on through Harley Flanagan who also became a devotee. Their next album, '' Alpha Omega'', saw the return of John Joseph and, Doug Holland the Cro-Mags fold, and an even further gravitation towards a metal sound. The Age Of Quarrel
''The Age of Quarrel'' is the debut studio album by the New York hardcore band Cro-Mags. It was originally released on then-independent Profile Records in September 1986. It was subsequently re-released by Another Planet in 1994, along with the band's 1989 follow-up album, '' Best Wishes'', on the same disc. The video for "We Gotta Know" (directed by guitarist Parris Mayhew) received airplay on MTV at the time (during their alternative music show ''120 Minutes'' and later on ''Headbangers Ball'') and was one of the first-ever clips on MTV to feature slam dancing and crowd surfing. Rat Cage was an independent record label from New York City. Rat Cage was founded by Donna Lee Parsons. It was run out of a record shop of the same name. The Beastie Boys worked with until they switched to Def Jam in 1984. Most notably, the Beastie Boys' debut EP Polly Wog Stew was released on the label. The Stimulators
The Stimulators were an American punk rock band from New York City. Although they have a limited discography, they are notable for being consistently cited as an important transitional band between the late-1970s New York City punk rock scene and New York hardcore, and for being the musical entry point for future Cro-Mags founder Harley Flanagan. History Denise Mercedes grew up in Manhattan and Queens, New York City, raised by a longshoreman father who played flute and piano. Teaching herself to play guitar, she became infatuated with punk rock after having seen the Damned play their first New York City show at CBGB. Thrash Metal
Thrash metal (or simply thrash) is an Extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music characterized by its overall aggression and fast tempo.Kahn-Harris, Keith, ''Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge'', pp. 2–3, 9.
