Criollo Mexicano
The Criollo Mexicano is a Mexican breed or group of breeds of Criollo cattle — that is, cattle that derive principally from the Iberian cattle brought to the Americas by the Conquistadores, starting with the Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1493. History Iberian cattle were introduced to the Americas by the Conquistadores, and arrived in various parts of what is now Mexico during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Cattle were first brought into Mexico from the Caribbean islands in 1521 and gradually spread throughout the territory of the country. They were in the area of Mexico City by about 1535, and by 1565 had spread as far as the Pacific coast of Nayarit. Within about a century, they had reached the deserts of Chihuahua and Sonora, including Baja California. DAD-IS
DAD-IS is the acronym for the Domestic Animal Diversity Information System, a tool developed and maintained by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations as a part of its programme for management of animal genetic resources for food and agriculture. It includes a searchable database of information on animal breeds. Overview The FAO began to collect data on animal breeds in 1982. The first version of DAD-IS was launched in 1996 and the software has been updated several times; the fourth version was launched in 2017. DAD-IS includes a searchable database of information about animal breeds, the Global Databank for Animal Genetic Resources. Criollo Cattle
''Criollo'' (or Creole) is a group of cattle breeds descended from Iberian Peninsula, Iberian stock imported to the Americas. The cattle were imported through the Columbian exchange, Columbian Exchange during his second visit to the Caribbean. Criollo cattle thrive in Semi-arid climate, semi-arid and Desert climate, arid climates, allowing them to dominate both North America, North and South America. Additionally, the cattle need wide ranges to roam and forage for food. Thus, areas such as the Texas and the Argentine Plains (Pampas, Las Pampas) are preferred lands for cattle ranching.
