Corneliu Chisu
Corneliu Emil Eugen Chișu (born February 13, 1949) is a Romanian-born Canadian politician, who was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 2011 election. He represented the riding of Pickering—Scarborough East as a member of the Conservative Party before being defeated by Jennifer O'Connell in the 2015 Canadian federal election in the redistributed riding of Pickering—Uxbridge. Background Chisu was born in Satu Mare, Romania, and he attended high school at Mihai Eminescu National College. He graduated from Polytechnic University of Bucharest in 1971 with a degree in engineering physics. He worked as a researcher at the Research Energy Institute in Bucharest and as a teaching assistant at the Polytechnic University while pursuing his Ph.D., specializing in the field of photovoltaic conversion of solar energy. Pickering—Scarborough East was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that had been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. The district was created in 2003 from 44.1% of Pickering—Ajax—Uxbridge, 39.7% of Scarborough East, and 0.1% of Scarborough—Rouge River ridings. Following the Canadian federal electoral redistribution, 2012, the riding was redistributed between Pickering—Uxbridge and Scarborough—Rouge Park. The Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (french: Médaille canadienne du maintien de la paix) is a campaign medal created October 21, 1999 to recognize the contributions of all Canadian Peacekeepers towards the ultimate goal of peace, after the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations was awarded that year's Nobel Peace Prize. The inaugural presentation was made on September 6, 2000. History In 1988, the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to United Nations Peacekeepers, in recognition of their efforts over more than 50 years to establish and maintain peace. The NATO Medal is an international military decoration which is awarded to various militaries of the world under the authority of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It is manufactured by Eekelers-Centini Intl, of Hemiksem, Belgium. Background The NATO Medal was first established in 1996 to recognize individuals who had served in the Implementation Force (IFOR) as part of Operation Joint Endeavor in Former Yugoslavia. A new ribbon was established in 1999 for participants in Operation Allied Force in Kosovo. As NATO operations became more common, different ribbons were established for each operation. The Canadian Forces' Decoration (post-nominal letters "CD") is a Canadian award bestowed upon members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have completed twelve years of military service, with certain conditions. By convention, it is also given to the Governor General of Canada upon his or her appointment as viceroy, which includes the title of Commander-in-Chief in and over Canada. The decoration is awarded to all ranks, who must have a good record of conduct during the final eight years of claimed service. The first Governor General to receive the CD was Viscount Alexander of Tunis in 1951. The Hungarian Order of Merit ( hu, Magyar Érdemrend) is the fourth highest State Order of Hungary. Founded in 1991, the order is a revival of an original order founded in 1946 and abolished in 1949. Its origins, however, can be traced to the Order of Merit of the Kingdom of Hungary which existed from 1922 until 1946.
