Copenhagen Casino
The Casino Theatre was a theatre located at Amaliegade 10 in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was built as an entertainment venue by Tivoli Gardens-founder Georg Carstensen but was converted into a theatre in 1848. It closed in 1937 and the building was demolished in 1960. History Origins Built by Georg Carstensen, founder of Tivoli Gardens, Casino was originally envisioned as a "Winter Tivoli" with bazaar, promenade concerts and soirées. Carstensen financed the project through the sale of shares. In November 1845, he had raised 200,000 Danish rigsdaler. The building was designed by H. C. Stilling who had also worked for Carstensen during the establishment of Tivoli Gardens. The entertainment venue opened on 22 February 1847. Amaliegade
Amaliegade () is a street in central Copenhagen, Denmark, which makes up the longer of the two axes on which the Rococo district Frederiksstaden is centred. Amaliegade extends from Sankt Annæ Plads to Esplanaden, passing through the central plaza of Amalienborg Palace on the way where it intersects Frederiksgade, the other, shorter but more prominent, axis of the district. The street is dominated by a number of elegant mansions, most of which are from the second half of the 18th century. At Amalienborg Palace, Amaliegade is spanned by a colonnade. Designed by royal architect Caspar Frederik Harsdorff, it was built in 1794–95 to connect Moltke's Palace, the residence of the king, to Schack's Palace where the Crown prince resided. Peter Martin Orla Lehmann (15 May 1810 – 13 September 1870) was a Danish statesman, a key figure in the development of Denmark's parliamentary government. Early life and education He was born in Copenhagen, son of (1775–1856), assessor, later conference councillor () and deputy in the College of Commerce. His father was German, born in Haselau at Uetersen in Holstein, while his mother was Danish and the daughter of a mayor in Copenhagen. The family belonged to the same social circle as the Ørsted brothers and the poet Oehlenschläger. Erik Bøgh (17 June 1822 – 17 August 1899) was a Danish journalist, playwright and songwriter. From 1881 to 1899 he worked at the Royal Danish Theatre. Piano Concerto (Grieg)
The Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, composed by Edvard Grieg in 1868, was the only concerto Grieg completed. It is one of his most popular works, and is among the most popular of the genre. Grieg, who was only 24 years old at the time of the composition, had taken inspiration from Robert Schumann's piano concerto (Op.54), also in A minor.
