Coosan
Coosan () is a townland and suburb north of Athlone, County Westmeath in Ireland. Coosan, which is situated on the shores of Lough Ree, is surrounded by water on three sides and bordered by Athlone on the fourth. Coosan attracts tourists over the summer months due to its location on the edge of Lough Ree. Coosan Lough, one of the "inner lakes" of Lough Ree, is a common fishing spot. The Lough Ree Yacht Club is located in the area. The area includes a number of townlands, several of which are described 'quarters'. These include Castlequarter, Hillquarter and Meehanquarter. The local Roman Catholic parish church, Queen of Peace church, was opened in 1973. Lisa Dwan
Lisa Dwan is an Irish actress. She is best known for her work in theatre, performing in Samuel Beckett adaptations among other works. She began her career in the Fox Kids series '' Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog'' (1998–1999). More recently, she starred in the Netflix series ''Top Boy'' (2019–2023). She also appeared in the RTÉ soap opera ''Fair City'' (2006–2007) and the ITV drama ''Rock Rivals'' (2008). Early life Dwan was born in Coosan, Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland, and originally trained as a ballet dancer. Lough Ree Yacht Club
Lough Ree Yacht Club is a sailing club based in Ballglass, Coosan, near Athlone, Ireland. Founded in 1770, albeit under the name Athlone Yacht Club, it claims to be one of the oldest yacht clubs in the world, although another Irish yacht club, The Royal Cork Yacht Club (formerly The Cork Water Club) has proven to be the world's first and oldest yacht club. In any event it is probably the oldest club based on an inland lake. History The tradition of organised pleasure boating in Athlone goes back to at least 1731, with a regatta on the River Shannon amongst the 'diversions' promised for a festival week in the town. Athlone (; ) is a town on the border of County Roscommon and County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is located on the River Shannon near the southern shore of Lough Ree. Brawny (barony)
Brawny () is a barony in south–west County Westmeath, Ireland. It was formed by 1672. It is bordered by County Roscommon to the west. It also borders two other Westmeath baronies: Kilkenny West (to the north–east) and Clonlonan (to the south-east). The largest centre of population in the barony is the town of Athlone. Geography Brawny has an area of . The barony contains a small part of the southern end of the second largest lake on the River Shannon, Lough Ree. Robbie Henshaw
Robert Anthony Henshaw (born 12 June 1993) is an Irish professional rugby union player who plays as a centre for United Rugby Championship club Leinster and the Ireland national team. He previously played for Connacht until 2016. Early life Born in Athlone, Henshaw grew up in the suburb Coosan, and was a student at Marist College in the town. In 2011, he was part of the Buccaneers Under 19 team that won Connacht League and Cup and the All Ireland League. He was captain of the school's rugby team in 2012 when they won their first Connacht Senior Schools Cup in 35 years. In addition to rugby Henshaw also played Gaelic football in his youth. He played for the Athlone senior team at just 18 years old, and played for the Westmeath minor team in 2010 and 2011. Lough Ree (), translated to English as ''King's Lake'' or ''King Lake'', is a lake in the midlands of Republic of Ireland, Ireland, the second of the three major lakes on the River Shannon. Lough Ree is the second largest lake on the Shannon after Lough Derg (Shannon), Lough Derg. The other two major lakes are Lough Allen to the north, and Lough Derg to the south. There are also several minor lakes along the length of the river.
