Ed Baird
Phillip Edward "Ed" Baird (born May 17, 1958) is an American sailor. He was a coach of the 1995 America's Cup-winning Team New Zealand and a helmsman for the 2007 America's Cup-winning Alinghi syndicate. Growing up in Florida, Baird raced in the Optimist class at junior level, before moving onto other dinghies. He won the World Laser Championships in 1980 and the World J/24 Championships in 1983. Coaching career Baird joined Team New Zealand as a coach for the 1995 America's Cup, guiding the syndicate to New Zealand's first ever Cup win. In the same year, he won the World Match Racing Championships, and was named the US's Yachtsman of the Year. In 1999, he skippered ''Young America'' in the Louis Vuitton series to determine the challenger for the following year's America's Cup, but the syndicate's challenge faltered when one of its two yachts nearly sank in a race against a Japanese team. Kenneth Read (born June 24, 1961) is an American yachtsman who is considered one of the world's most accomplished and celebrated sailors. He was named United States Rolex Yachtsman of the Year twice (1985 and 1995), and has won more than 40 world, North American, and national championships in a variety of classes, with nine of those being World Championships titles in the J/24, Etchells 22 and yacht classes. Dean Barker (born 8 April 1973) is a New Zealand yachtsman. He is best known internationally for his participation in America's Cup yacht races. Early life and family Barker was born in 1973 in Takapuna, New Zealand. Barker's father is the New Zealander Ray Barker of the Barkers Clothing retail chain. Chris Law (sailor)
Chris Law (5 July 1952 – 24 July 2007) was a British sailor who was a winner of the Finn Gold Cup in 1976. His talent was sometimes overshadowed by his bad luck and volatile temperament. He died by suicide at Lake Constance in 2007. Sailing career thumb Law started sailing, crewed by his younger brother Tim, in the Cadet dinghy on the Thames at Teddington. He came 4th in the Cadet World Championship in Spain in 1969 and 4th in the 1970 Cadet World Championship in Hobart, Australia. He then moved on to the Finn class, where he narrowly missed Olympic qualification in 1972 and 1976. During this time his first daughter Charlotte was born. He won the Finn Gold Cup in 1976 at the age of 23, one of the youngest ever winners, and then became the father of his second daughter – Amy. Terry Hutchinson
Terry Hutchinson (born May 20, 1968) is an American sailor eleven-time world champion in the Corel 45, J/24, TP 52, Farr 40 and IMS classes, and a winning tactician of the Louis Vuitton Cup. In 2008 and 2014, he was named Rolex Yachtsman of the Year. He has also been part of five America's Cup campaigns. Background He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and went to St. Mary's High School. Chris Dickson (sailor)
Christopher Stuart Dickson (born 3 November 1961) is a sailor from New Zealand. He was world youth champion three years in succession and later became world match race champion three times. He also skippered several yachts in America's Cup racing, and for New Zealand at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and in numerous other sailing competitions. As skipper of ''Tokio'' he looked set to win the W60 class in the 1993–94 Whitbread Round the World Race until the boat was dismasted in the fifth leg. He also skippered Larry Ellison's 78 foot maxi yacht ''Sayonara'' to line honours in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and in four world championship regattas. Peter Gilmour
Peter Gilmour (born 25 January 1960) is an Australian sailing skipper. He is an America's Cup veteran and was named Western Australian Sportsman of the Year in 1987. He is also the only 4 time World Match racing Tour Champion. He currently resides in Perth, Western Australia. Gilmour started sailing at the age of seven on Perth's Swan River, and he competed in his first world championship at the age of 16, finishing 21st. Gilmour's performance continued to improve as his experience with the different disciplines of sailing increased. Harold Cudmore, (born April 21, 1944) is an Irish sailor. Born and raised in Cork, Harold Cudmore became an internationally famous yacht racing skipper and match racer. Cudmore had success in classes from the International 505, where he placed 2nd in the World and 4th in Europe, through classes like the Half-ton and One-Ton classes where he won the Worlds, through to the America's Cup and the Admiral's Cup.
