Conflict In Rakhine State (2016–present)
Violent clashes have been ongoing in the northern part of Myanmar's Rakhine State since October 2016. Insurgent attacks by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) have led to Sectarianism, sectarian violence perpetrated by Myanmar's military and the local Buddhism in Myanmar, Buddhist population against predominantly Islam, Muslim Rohingya people, Rohingya civilians. The conflict has sparked International reactions to the Rohingya genocide, international outcry and was described as an ethnic cleansing by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. In August 2017, the situation worsened and hundreds of thousands of refugees fled Myanmar into Bangladesh, with an estimated 500,000 refugees having arrived by 27 September 2017. Min Aung Hlaing
Min Aung Hlaing (born 3 July 1956) is a Burmese army general who has ruled Myanmar as the chairman of the State Administration Council, chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) since seizing power in the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, February 2021 coup d'état. Combatant
Combatant is the legal status of a person entitled to directly participate in hostilities during an armed conflict, and may be intentionally targeted by an adverse party for their participation in the armed conflict. Border Guard Police
The Border Guard Police (; abbreviated BGP) are a department of Myanmar's Myanmar Police Force. Duties The BGP is specialised in border control, counterinsurgency, crowd control and security checkpoints in border areas and insurgent areas, gathering intelligence in local areas to counterinsurgency and counter perpetrators in border areas, internal security, law enforcement in border areas and insurgency areas, and protecting agency assets in risky areas. Ataullah Abu Ammar Jununi
Ataullah abu Ammar Jununi () is the leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a Rohingya insurgent group active in northern Rakhine State. Ataullah appears in several videos released online by ARSA, where he gives press statements and speeches. Early life Ataullah was born in Karachi, Pakistan to a migrant family which had fled the religious persecution in Myanmar sometime during the 1960s. At an early age, Ataullah's family moved to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he was enrolled in an Islamic school. In his later years in Mecca, Ataullah served as an imam to the Rohingya diaspora community of around 150,000. Major General Twan Mrat Naing ( Burmese: ထွန်းမြတ်နိုင်; also spelled Tun Myat Naing) is an Arakanese revolutionary and commander in chief of the Arakan Army, an ethnic armed organization.
