Concan
Concan is a small unincorporated community in Uvalde County. It sits along the Frio River close to Garner State Park and is a popular destination for summer vacationers. It is known for excellent birdwatching in the spring. A Roy Bechtol-designed 18-hole golf course called Concan Country Club or the Golf Club at Concan is open to the public. The area is dominated by large cattle, sheep and goat ranches some of which date back to when German emigrants settled this area. Several outfitters in the area haul swimmers and tubers up the Frio River to designated drop-off points, then pick them up downstream. Neal's Dining Hall in Concan is featured in a 2012 episode of the syndicated television series ''Texas Country Reporter'' hosted by Bob Phillips. Garner State Park
Garner State Park is a state park in the community of Concan, Texas located in Uvalde County, Texas in the United States. Garner State Park, in the Texas Hill Country, is the most popular state park in Texas for overnight camping. It often fills by noon in peak parts of the season. The park is popular with campers and local residents for its activities on the Frio River and the dances held nightly during the spring and summer. History In the early 1930s the park was built to save a portion of the hill country for the public, and to provide work for unemployed men during the economic depression. The land for Garner State Park was acquired in 1934 through 1936. In 1934, the Texas State Parks Board approved the location for a future state park, and the Texas Legislature provided funding for state parks. Uvalde County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 24,564. Its county seat is Uvalde. The county was created in 1850 and organized in 1856. Area code 830 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for the Texas Hill Country and most of San Antonio's suburbs. It completely surrounds area codes 210 and 726, which serve most of San Antonio itself along with its innermost suburbs. It was created July 7, 1997, in a split from 210. A few outer portions of the city moved to 830, making San Antonio one of the few cities split between multiple area codes. This split occurred only five years after 210 split from 512. Frio River
The Frio River is a river in the U.S. state of Texas. The word ''frío'' is Spanish for ''cold'', a clear reference to the spring-fed coolness of the river. Geography The Frio River has three primary tributaries; the East, West, and Dry Frio Rivers. The West Frio River rises from springs in northeastern Real County and joins with the East Frio River near the town of Leakey; the Dry Frio River joins northeast of Uvalde. The river flows generally southeast for 200 miles until it empties into the Nueces River south of the town of Three Rivers. Along the way, the Frio River provides water to the Choke Canyon Reservoir in McMullen and Live Oak Counties. Conquian
Conquian, Coon Can or Colonel (the two-handed version) is a rummy-style card game. David Parlett describes it as an ancestor to all modern rummy games, and a kind of proto- gin rummy. Before the appearance of gin rummy, it was described as "an excellent game for two players, quite different from any other in its principles and requiring very close attention and a good memory to play it well".Foster (1897), p. 486.
