Communist Platform (Netherlands)
The Communist Platform is a Dutch orthodox Marxist political organisation, founded in 2014. The Platform publishes articles about topical and historical political events and developments from a Marxist point of view. The Platform also organises reading groups and seminars on various subjects and translates Marxist works into Dutch. Finally, the Platform participates in the Dutch labour movement, for example by publishing voting recommendations for congresses and leadership elections within the Dutch Socialist Party (Netherlands), Socialist Party. Ideology The Communist Platform labels itself as orthodox Marxist. The Platform sees the labour movement as an arena for ideological struggle in which communists should fight for a Marxist program. Nieuwsuur (''News Hour'') is a Dutch current affairs television programme produced for the NPO, produced by the public broadcasters NOS and NTR. It is broadcast daily between 9:30 pm and 10:15 pm (9:30-10 pm at weekends) on NPO 2. The programme pays particular attention to Dutch and European politics and current affairs, as well as other international events. Communist Party Of Great Britain
The Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB) was the largest communist organisation in Britain and was founded in 1920 through a merger of several smaller Marxist groups. Many miners joined the CPGB in the 1926 general strike. In 1930, the CPGB founded the ''Daily Worker'' (renamed the Morning Star (British newspaper), ''Morning Star'' in 1966). In 1936, members of the party were present at the Battle of Cable Street, helping organise resistance against the British Union of Fascists. In the Spanish Civil War, the CPGB worked with the USSR to create the British Battalion of the International Brigades, which party activist Bill Alexander (British politician), Bill Alexander commanded. A rood or rood cross, sometimes known as a triumphal cross, is a cross or crucifix, especially the large crucifix set above the entrance to the chancel of a medieval church. Arnout Hoekstra (born 2 December 1984) is a Dutch politician. He was '' Lijsttrekker'' of the Socialist Party (SP) in the 2019 European Parliament election but was not elected as European parliamentarian. Biography Hoekstra became a member of the SP when he was 16 years old. After a period on the municipal council of his hometown of Vlaardingen, he became alderman in that municipality in 2011.
