Come Hell Or High Water
''Come Hell or High Water'' is a CD and DVD by British rock band Deep Purple. It was recorded on 16 October 1993 at Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart and at the NEC in Birmingham on 9 November. The album is one of the last to feature Ritchie Blackmore, as he quit after the concert on 17 November 1993 in Helsinki. He was replaced by Joe Satriani for the rest of the tour and later by Steve Morse. Recording This live performance is well known for Blackmore's erratic behaviour on stage. The band opened with Highway Star without Blackmore who did not enter the stage until his guitar solo section approximately 3:00 in. For unknown reasons, he took issue with the presence of a cameraman filming behind Ian Gillian on the opposite side of the stage. In the midst of his solo, he looked around for a projectile object and threw a cup of water at the cameraman. "Child in Time" is a song by English rock band Deep Purple, released on their fourth studio album, '' Deep Purple in Rock'' in 1970. It is the longest track on the album, running over ten minutes. The song's lyrics are loosely inspired by the Cold War. The song is notable for showcasing singer Ian Gillan's full vocal range and the instrumental jam section between guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and organist Jon Lord. "Perfect Strangers" is a song by the British rock band Deep Purple. It is the title track of their 1984 comeback album '' Perfect Strangers''. It was also released as the first single from the album in the UK. It is one of the few Deep Purple compositions not to feature a guitar solo. "Black Night" is a song by English hard rock band Deep Purple, released as a single in June 1970 and later included on the 25th Anniversary version of their 1970 studio album, '' Deep Purple in Rock''. "Highway Star" is a song by the English rock band Deep Purple. It is the opening track on the band's sixth studio album ''Machine Head'' (1972) and is the fastest tempo song on the album. It is characterised by long, classically inspired guitar and organ solos. History This song was born on a tour bus going to Portsmouth in 1971 when a reporter asked the band how they wrote songs. To demonstrate, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore grabbed an acoustic guitar and began playing a riff consisting of a single "G" repeated over and over, while vocalist Ian Gillan improvised lyrics over the top. Ian Paice
Ian Anderson Paice (born 29 June 1948) is an English musician who is the drummer and last remaining original member of the rock band Deep Purple. He remains the only member of Deep Purple who has served in every line-up since the band's inception in 1968, as well as having played on every album and at every live appearance. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Deep Purple in 2016. Deep Purple were broken up for eight years from 1976 to 1984, during which time Paice was a member of two bands that also involved other Deep Purple members, Paice Ashton Lord (also featuring Jon Lord) during 1976–1978, and Whitesnake (also featuring Jon Lord and David Coverdale) during 1979–1982. Jon Lord
John Douglas "Jon" Lord (9 June 194116 July 2012) was an English keyboardist and composer. In 1968, Lord co-founded the hard rock band Deep Purple. Lord performed on most of the band's most popular songs; he and drummer Ian Paice were the only continuous members in the band between 1968 and 1976, and also from its revival in 1984 until his retirement in 2002. He also played for the bands Whitesnake, Paice Ashton Lord, the Artwoods, the Flower Pot Men and Santa Barbara Machine Head. Roger Glover
Roger David Glover (born 30 November 1945) is a Welsh bassist, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known as a member of the hard rock bands Deep Purple and Rainbow. Ian Gillan (born 19 August 1945) is an English singer who is best known as the lead singer and lyricist for the rock band Deep Purple. He is known for his powerful and wide-ranging singing voice. Initially influenced by Elvis Presley, Gillan started and fronted several local bands in the mid-1960s, and eventually joined Episode Six (band), Episode Six when their original singer left. He first found widespread commercial success after joining Deep Purple in 1969. He resigned from the band in June 1973, having given a lengthy notice period to their managers. ''Live in Europe 1993'' (alternative title: ''On Tour MCMXCIII'') is a live box-set, released by Sony/BMG, containing two concerts recorded by Deep Purple in 1993. Each concert has its own gatefold sleeve and paper CD-liners, being housed in a cardboard outer box. The first recording is from a show on 16 October at the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart, Germany. The second is from a show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England on 9 November, which would be the final show Ritchie Blackmore did with Deep Purple in England. The live album ''Come Hell or High Water'' from 1994 was recorded at this Stuttgart show. The Birmingham show was released on DVD as ''Come Hell or High Water'' in 1994. In 2007 each show had a separate release, in a jewel-case, being titled ''Live in Stuttgart'' and ''Live at the Birmingham NEC''. Steve Morse
Steve J. Morse (born July 28, 1954) is an American guitarist and songwriter. A seven-time Grammy nominee, he is best known as the founder of the Dixie Dregs and as the longest serving guitarist for Deep Purple. Morse also enjoyed a successful solo career and was a member of the group Kansas in the mid-1980s. Most recently, Morse became a member of the supergroup Flying Colors. Early life and education Steve Morse was born in Hamilton, Ohio. His family soon moved to Tennessee and then to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where Morse spent his childhood. Although familiar with piano and clarinet, Morse ultimately became a guitarist.
