The Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) is a first-class cricket club in Sri Lanka. It is the oldest in the country, having been formed in 1863, and is headquartered at 31 Maitland Crescent, Colombo 7, close to the headquarters of Sri Lanka Cricket. History The idea of a gentlemen's team for British colonists in British Ceylon, Ceylon was first mooted among the patrons of the Colombo Club- a social club for the British upper class then located at the Galle Face Green (not to be confused with the 1871 club of the same name and location). The beginnings of the club proper can then be traced back to a notice in the Colombo Journal of 5 September 1832, which called for "''...gentlemen who may be inclined towards forming a Cricket Club...''" to "''...meet at the Library (located in the Pettah, Sri Lanka, Pettah) at 2 o'clock precisely on the 8th instant''". Colombo Gymkhana Club
The Colombo Gymkhana Club is a social club for men in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It also owns and administers the Colombo Cricket Club, the Colombo Hockey and Football Club and the Queen's Club, as well as the Colombo Cricket Club Ground. History Established in 1863, it was a successor to the original Colombo Club (established in the early 1800s), and by 1899 administered five different sports via their ownership/establishment of the Colombo Cricket Club (established informally in 1832; formally in 1863), the Colombo Hockey and Football Club (established in 1892), and the Queen's Club ( squash and tennis; established in 1899). Leg Spin
Leg spin is a type of spin bowling in cricket. A bowler who uses this technique is called a leg spinner. Leg spinners bowl with their right-arm and a wrist spin action. The leg spinner's normal delivery is called a leg break, which spins from right to left (from the bowler's perspective) when the ball bounces on the pitch. For a right-handed batter, the ball breaks towards them from the leg side, hence the name 'leg break'. Leg spinners bowl mostly leg breaks, varying them by adjusting the line and length, and amount of side spin versus topspin of the deliveries. Leg spinners also typically use variations of flight by sometimes looping the ball in the air, allowing any cross-breeze and the aerodynamic effects of the spinning ball to cause the ball to dip and drift before bouncing and spinning or "turning", sharply. Subasinghe Mudiyanselage Ashan Priyanjan (born 14 August 1989) is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for the national side in limited over formats. He is a middle-order batsman and occasionally a right-arm off break bowler. Queen's Club (Colombo)
The Queen's Club is one of the oldest private members' club and the oldest tennis and squash club in Sri Lanka. The club was established in 1899 by prominent British colonialist in the island. Its membership was limited to British and Europeans until Ceylon gained independence in 1948, thereafter membership was extended to Ceylonese. In 1958 the club came under the umbrella of the Gymkhana Club. The club has since moved out of its original club house at the intersection of Colombo-Batticaloa highway and Bauddhaloka Mawtha (Thummulla Junction), and is now part of the Colombo Gymkhana Club.
